Two great Dr. Strangelove-esque music videos
tagged Strangelove-influenced videos
These are two really fantastic videos reminiscent of the theme/style/subject matter of Kubrick's masterpiece Dr. Strangelove (great movie by the way).
MUSE - TIME IS RUNNING OUT

The second best out of the two and the most blatantly Strangelove. Gets a little repetitive, but packs a punch.

AIR - SURFING ON A ROCKET

Fantastic absurd and satirical video. I haven't heard of the director, but I hope he makes more.

You could also add the Gondry directed clip for Lenny Kravitz...."Believe" I think is what it's called.I remember also there was a Matthew Sweet video from about 10 years ago that utilized actual footage from 2001. The director claimed it was on a reel of public domain footage or something like that. Wish I could remember the name of the video.
Also, for any other Kubrick lovers, I just found this today:

SURFING ON A ROCKET is by alex&martin (partizan)For 2001 you can add the radiohead vid where tom sing in a bottle where water is being poured. You have all the reflections ala 2001. can't remember the dir.

that taschen kubrick book looks great, the $200US price tag is kinda steep, but it looks very comprehensive. i think there was an exhibition of his archives in Germany last year, and that this book is a compliation of that event.captainmarc22, January 21, 2005 10:51:20 PM CET
hmmm I'd say the Muse one is more 2001 than Strangelove - one I can think of which is very Strangelove (or maybe War Games) is this video which was in the last RES DVD issue - don't know the name, it was all static shots, and took place in an old-school computer facility. Everything was on and running; the place looked evacuated- very whimsical music, and the computer monitors indicated thst Nuclear war between the US and the USSR had just begun. Maybe it got a tad boring but it was a nice video.stripedcollar, January 22, 2005 3:21:47 AM CET
The Muse video set just looked like the conference room where the president of the U.S. calls the Russian president from Strangelove. And the video was for a song by Etienne Charry called A-bomb. It's not bad.ai, January 22, 2005 7:43:24 PM CET
@captainmarc22 That is a video i did! I agree it was boring after 1'30! (but bore was actually a feature!)lusk81, January 23, 2005 2:22:00 AM CET
AI: post the vid man! Would love to see it.ai, January 23, 2005 2:39:21 AM CET
i'll post one when i'll make one good!captainmarc22, January 23, 2005 5:01:39 AM CET
ai it was good. Very minimalist. The song was dope too. Shit man, it made it in RES which can't be said for 99% of the videos out there.also I confused the Muse video w/ the spaceship one - Song for Absolution - which itself was a pretty boring video.

What is the name of the video?kevathens, April 19, 2007 11:22:06 PM CEST
Etienne Charry's A-Bomb, as stripedcollar pointed out.So ai is Jan Brzeczkowski? "..studied animation and graphics at Paris' Ecole Nationale Superieure Des Arts Decoratifs and has worked for five years [at the time of publication] in all aspects of computerized imaging. "A-Bomb" is his first video."
kayser_sauze, April 19, 2007 11:51:28 PM CEST
Jan Brzeczkowski->JB->BJ->AB.IJ->AI =two Kubrick references: HAL and Artificial Intelligence: AI (2001).
