Okay, THIS is the one directed by Shynola. Sorry for the mixup last time. I think I can safely say this is my favorite video right now.

Siggraph 86'(or maybe 93 like odelay(...))+Nightmare before xmas+That asian tv-video featuring puppeters playing ping-pong ala matrix everyone saw=i'm kind disappointedThis video is very referential but is it original?
So far for me best shynola video is "blur-good song". Is it due to the collaboration of david shrigley ?

holy shit that rocked.lusk81, January 29, 2005 10:49:40 PM CET
Am I the only one that doesn't lose their shit over shynola? I think their work is clever at best. For me their videos tend to be very forgettable. The most interesting thing that happens here is the bicycle that turns into a building climber.

very cool, if anyone finds an article on their process for making the video post it here. im curious how they filmed it, im assuming they put Beck on a harness and lifted him up a bit and then used a motion control rig and imported the data to build the world around it, maybe with some extra camera animating.ai, January 30, 2005 12:04:55 AM CET
@ vomitp : in fact it's puppeters who lifted him and moved him. it's really a pity we can't see them. Like in the video i mentionned, i can add to this a south african puppet company but i forgot its name (i can search for it if you want)."crazy matrix-style ping-pong in the traditional style of bunraku, with men in black suits secretly moving things" www.ntv.co.jp
the same here

And here's a pepsi ad i never noticed using the same tech

Ai, if you want to get down to it, there is NO originality in ANYTHING. In this medium, especially, people are constantly building on other people's achievements. We're all so inundated with media every day that it's pretty much impossible to come up with something that's never been done before. So you could either pick it apart, or just enjoy it for what it is, a clever, engaging, and very well done music video. Not picking a fight, mind you. I just think we all get so caught up in the process that sometimes we forget to take a step back and enjoy the finished product for what it is.

It doesn't touch me that's all. When nothing moves you, you start to count the tricks. Seeing so much effort in using the black men technique for so much in return (and i mean for the visual and the meaning) really bother me. Maybe i'm wrong i'll have a look tomorrow.captainmarc22, January 30, 2005 12:58:07 AM CET
little bit of Garth Jennings' Supergrass "Pumpin on your Stereo" w/ the hand holding him up - that was one of the stronger aspects of the video. I dug it - they consistently put all the other "After Effects videos" to shame. I guess they have to cause there's so many of them.their Junior Senior video is Shynola's best. Their worst by far is Pyramid Song - MAYBE I didn't get what they were going for, but the animation was so high school 3D.

Not brilliant, but pretty damn close. And extremely hard to do, that is obvious. My compliments to the workaholic, inventive-animation-happy chefs. This one's a keeper.langdonallger, January 30, 2005 7:26:38 AM CET
Lusk, I also don't think that shynola are (is?) like, I don't know, really really good or something. I mean, they're definitly better than the majority of animation type director things, and that junior senior video was pretty great (I'd put this video at #2), but most of their stuff is just above average. I'd still love to have a shynola dvd, heh.killthewaitress, January 31, 2005 3:01:00 AM CET
That is so dope.Really messing with Z-space. I've seen a lot of videos, and this reminds me of none of them.
Gotta love Beck too. =)
