Bloc Party - Banquet redux

Nothing has come close to the greatness of the black and white versions for both "Helicopter" and "Banquet".
         
I don't think the original video for "banquet" was great, but it was definitely much better than this. I think I liked it more than the hands one too. Yeah, I did.
         
ehhhh...you're right. I threw "greatness" out a little too easily. Sometimes I get excited by what a director leaves out. Both of those videos were so simple and solid.
         
Again, what is going on with Bloc Party? Their videos are never up to par with what they achieve musically and lyrically. This video in particular is awful.
         
Total shit... start to finsih. Check out the Caribou video below and experience a true double sided coin. Exercise a bit of quality control fiends...
         
i don't think this video is colorful enough. no, needs more color. the kids won't like bloc party with this video. the kids just won't get it, better do one more.

can we get to joseph kahn to have a go? the kids will love it.
         
Honestly...Joseph Kahn should do one. It would definitely be better than this video. Mainstream he may be but he can put together a video - and occasionally he even pulls it out. The recent blink video was pretty interesting.

ALright BLoc Party- if you're listening - I'm ready for another BP video. Go to it. And stop accepting crappy ideas. Geez...you've got the hype! You should have the budget to hire Spike!

Joseph Kahn's Chemical Bros. "Get Yourself High" is one of the best videos in the last few years- his mainstream (artist-oriented) videos are always above average, but wish he did more smaller videos.
         
Word to that. I LOVE that chemical brothers video. And to be honest. I thought the Britney Spears TOXIC video was pretty slick.
         
Yeah, that's exactly who Bloc Party needs to make an intelligent clip for them; the guy who makes Britney Spears videos.
         
Are you saying it wouldn't be better than the above video? Or the last three videos they did? Kahn would be a huge step up. Ummm, defending Joseph Kahn is an unexpected turn for me...but I'll hold to it. Don't get me wrong, TORQUE was a huge pile of shit and only some of his videos hold up.
         
yeah, i have no beef with joseph kahn. and there is something strange going on with bloc party's videos. it's about time they got a big name in.

still, how can the same guy have made chemical brother's 'get yourself high' and dido's 'white flag'? i just don't understand.
         
Joseph Kahn: So he made one great Chemical Brothers video. He also made a bunch of glossesd over crap for Backstreet Boys, Brandy, Monica, Destiny's Child, Enrique Iglesias,Jennifer Love Hewitt, Britney Spears to name a few. The Bloc Party don't need to be glossed over, someone mentioned their lyrics in a post above, it's true, listen to them, these guys are intelligent, they need an equally intelligent director. I'm not sure who to suggest at this point. The once great Colonel Blimp directors seem to be falling short lately, don't know what's going on there. But I don't think Joseph Kanh coming in and slicking the blokes up is the answer either.

The reason for Alex+Liane's lady-fingers version being pulled was that it was a concept promo for a band whose management didn't want a concept promo. So the polka dot one replaced it as a more performance-led piece.
Some bands are marketed more conservatively than others and especially at early points in their career. The feeling with Banquet was that the band themselves are not extrovert enough to get away with such an approach yet, if ever (which is of course a shame as the lady-version's great).
         
Joseph Kahn is used to working with a little bit more than Bloc Party have to spend - he is doing the new Jamiroquai at the moment (shooting in NZ) so maybe it BP go quintuple platinum in the US he will slide into view.

You've got to be joking me, mate. The cat one is about the worst things I've ever seen. But this isn't about Fat Boy Slim, this is about Bloc Party and this video is Shite.
         
it's supposed to be the worst thing you've ever seen - it's what happens when a chubby cat-lover directs a fatboy slim video - because she won a contest.... I dunno, man, I think it's genius. The song sucks, but the director's on a roll.
         
Sorry mates, I just accidentally deleted my post that started this Waverly debate, so the last two comments might not make sense. Basically, I made a note that I didnt' mean to imply in my comment above that Colonel Blimp did this particular Bloc Party video, but that the other ones Colonel Blimp have made haven't been that well done or well received either. Then I made a comment that I don't think the Colonel's work has been as good lately as it used to be. And that's were these last two comments came in, which I was about to reply to, but have now lost my train of thought.. sorry, long work day, followed by too many dubes...
