And you guys thought that Green Day video was bad...


We don't really discuss Country and Western videos here on antville, and why not? Personally I get a bizzare kick out of watching CMT - it's like watching some parallel universe that I know nothing of that happens to occur in real time in the same dimension I inhabit. A place where people really, really like the American flag and Ford trucks. A place where trucker caps are not ironic nor worn by people who put product in their hair. A place where an artist can still sell 7 million copies of an album... Holy shit.

I offer this as a retort to the regarded awfulness of the "Wake Me Up When September Ends" video. Disliked though it may be, I appreciate its earnestness over what this video and its ilk have to say and how they do it.

Holy shit I hadn't seen this in a long while, just rewatched it. And we thought the Madalone "We stand as one" video was out of control, and this was HUGE. Like certified platinum, number one country single, top 25 hit.

and while this tub of lard is playing at soldiers, real soldiers are getting their heads blown off, This illegal war was brought to you by Halliburton, Lockheed, Boeing....The thing that really sickens about both videos is the ignorance of the directors - both gushingly sentimental and both totally missing the point. This one though has less to answer for, as its easily dismissed as a pile of patriotic shite.

'illegal war' to me sounds like you've been fed just another propaganda tagline, shouldn't all wars be illegal? is it only legal when the proper official documents are signed that we able to kill another human being? warfare & industry have been in bed together since the dawn of civilization, nothing new there, buisness as usual... the biggest lie is fighting for freedom, and what exactly is that freedom? the freedom to choose between either contributing to the economy, or starving.
         
Yes. This video came from a parallel universe where we're proud of our history, unafraid of tyrannical killers, and willing to do what it takes to keep our families and children safe.

It's amazing to think among those logged-on and tuned in are the losers who can't understand that nearly all of the great things around them are the result of American energy and effort, and these things don't come cheap, or free.

My hat's off to sentimental types who can appreciate the honor of the people who serve, sacrifice, and die on our behalf.

I'll look forward to all the whining and wimpy comments that this note elicits. Bring it on, girls.
