U2 - Window in the Skies (another Version) - dir. Gary Koepke

I guess a lot of people have had such a video idea (i know i have). but someone had the legal rights and editing money to get it done: a wet dream of a video mashup.

woah. i'd love to read the legalese involved here (u2 always having been on the barricades against re-use of sounds&videos...)perfect edit, the concept works great with the song (even nobilitates it) - unlike the filmstocky visual bits tacked on, and the alien artery/lightline stuff.

Wow. That's amazing. I'm in equally in awe of the editors and the lawyers involved.fungible, 4. January 2007, 17:23
Kind of arrogant in a way - look at everyone in music history singing our song! But then again, this is U2, who are we kidding.I guess they redeem themselves at the end, though, showing themselves in the audience. Good video.

what? Johhny Cash´s Gods Gonna Cut You... Part II, I dont know, from the title this could be another kind of video clip, nice edit.windfucker, 4. January 2007, 18:24
Hard to see past the shadow of Bono's ego whether this is homage or self-adulation. As for its use of archival footage, I think Negativland just shit themselves. It's a little shocking that this didn't use that famous footage of Fred Astaire dancing with a vacuum cleaner.

I couldn't get through the whole thing. It felt like it was trying way too hard but did not fit the song. 80% of the mouth movements did not look synced like they were supposed to and overall felt really messy with no real connection from each artist, except that they are all musicians..whats up with that?bettylou, 5. who didnt take the time to get some better shots. way to spend way too much money on nothing. really not impressive at all. dont kid yourself.spit, 5. January 2007, 06:28
This is so not my thing, but if you restrain your impulse to automatically deconstruct and decode it, it's actually very charming. At first I was sort of turned off by the video's apparent lack of a consistent look or theme (live shots are mixed with music video clips and awards show performances - timeless iconic performers are cut alongside some of today's less memorable pop stars), but I think it was a gutsy move to pull from such an eclectic mishmash of icons. I actually think this clip is probably a pretty close approximation of what America's collective musical and historical conscious actually looks like.luk, 5. January 2007, 15:22
i checket it at "the Mill" and it do not work for me. I don't want Elvis, Beyonce sing a song from U2. I just don't get it. I don't even think that teh edit is good. Total boring, imo.coady, 5. January 2007, 15:53
spit: "gutsy move to pull from such an eclectic mishmash of icons". Come on, you're kidding. Showing a bunch of much loved musical icons is gutsy? Time to reset our compass.spit, 5. January 2007, 18:48
Coady,Like I said, picking from such an eclectic group of performers is what I thought was a bold move. It would be a no-brainer to include Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, or Jerry Lee Lewis in this clip, but I was surprised to see Beyonce, Kanye, and Wu-Tang. Maybe I'm just happy to see that maybe U2 isn't "Rockist".

i've heard of this before seeing it and it doesn't work.oh and U2 sucks, how much money this "wonderful" african kid got to be on the screen exactly? simply lame.
lusk81, 5. January 2007, 22:34
And coady, also note how this is so obviously made by an ad agency. Only they would consider all the tack on particle effects as effective and necessary to "emphasize the melody of the piece and give the images their own rhythm". Junk.Appro pos to Mill's release: "A masterpiece of tenacity, creativity, and luck". Oh man...
coady, 5. January 2007, 23:06
spit, I was actually offended that they would co-opt hip hoppers and r&b acts in what is clearly a rock song ;>antdude, 6. January 2007, 00:39

Christ, fucking cynical much? How 'bout enjoying it as a celebration of popular music? Get the unliving fuck over yourselves. I'd hate to be you dissenters.coady, 6. January 2007, 09:34
chillax. it's called a conversation. dissenters? what is this, a convention where we're all supposed to get behind the candidate?progosk, 30. January 2007, 09:58
