Britney Spears - Circus (Dir. Francis Lawrence)

In a word: Disappointing.

I'm a massive Francis Lawrence fan and I have a fierce respect for much of his work but this video just didn't do it for me.

Of course, it's extremely well put together. It's a strong piece of pop promo. However, as I pressed play on this new Britney vid by bravura video-helmer Lawrence, I actually felt a little bit like a kid on Christmas. Sad, I know, but just imagine how much sadder this tale gets when I opened my gift and found nothing more than a well-burnished and shiny piece of coal.

This video didn't bring anything new to the table. It felt daring only in it's ability to be as safe as possible (the CYA performance shots were groan-worthy). I really really wanted this to be better than it was.

Oh well... I guess I'm off to watch Caskets and Leeds United to cheer myself up.

joseph kahn wins. what a huge let down. you are not missed, mr. lawrence.
         
Wow, I wanted to love it but... no. Very disappointing choreography; got very tired of the blur vignette/flare filters; and it just looked kind of empty. I'm probably being petulant and spoilt because I work with a lot of circus people, though, and there was just so much more that could have been done with the concept.
         
the circus-themed imagery in this live performance is way more interesting than this video

video is silly but the song is the best possible spears-song these days - thx also for the offenburger bambi-link, OH MY GOD, THIS SHOW WAS SOOOO BORING UNTIL SHE FINALLY CAME, great performance - and i repeat the question: WHERE IS SIMONTELO?
