Shelley Harland "Friday" - Director Daniel Reisinger
THE STORY OF AN OVERWEIGHT STEEL WORKER WHO LOVES TO FIGURE SKATE.
It was a real challenge to make. We spent weeks casting a lead who was overweight, could act and could really skate. Eventually we found Dale Blunden a house Dad and former speed skater. He was extremely tough taking tumble after tumble, take after take on the hard ice.
We shot in a 100 year old steel foundry where they had absolutely no concept of OH&S. When we first recced the place they let me stir the molten steel (only 2400 degrees Celsius) in my jeans and T Shirt.
I have a background in News and Docos so I try whenever possible to incorporate real life footage. We shot at the Mitchell Cup figure skating championships. The footage cut seamlessly in. Although we found the figure skating community to be very highly strung and they threatened to shut down our production several times. Ultimately though they loved the result.
Watch out for the twist at the end. It always provokes a reaction.

Awful. Why even attempt to go there considering Avalanches 'Since I Left You' nailed it. Stick to the news.
^a bit unnecessary with the aggression there, pal.
Sorry, just being honest.
Yeah, don't even try it because a niche indie group that no one listens to anymore made a completely unrelated video that barely anyone saw 10 years ago. Sorry, just being honest.
This came out a month or two before Sam's excellent Blue Juice clip. As for the rest of it all work is influenced somewhere along the line.
Budget - Since I Left You had garnered an international audience with great wide acclaim. Not to mention the string of awards it had cleaned up across the globe. Not bad for something that was made 10 years ago considering it was for a 'niche indie group no one listens to anymore'
'Which rock were you hiding under?
yeah, no one listens to them anymore, and yes, the album came out a decade ago, and no, they never had as big an audience (especially not a mainstream one) as you seem to remember.
and don't use the word 'garnered' unless you're writing a wikipedia entry or trying to be funny.
^ whatever tickles your pickle
SIMPSONS DID IT, SIMPSONS DID IT
I think this video's great. Some may not and that's their opinion. When something's well shot, aims for something, and displays something what's not to like? the positives outweight the negatives. Someone will always find a reason to complain, a nasty side effect of "this is my opinion".
Screw the haters - its a great looking video. The idea may or may not be similar to others, but since when was any idea truly original? The DOP did a real nice job.
I though the video looked great- especially the shots at the factory with the flames. I though the artist was the worst-looking part of the video. She looks rough. I was happy when it cut away from her and back to the guy. Nicely done!
