Pet Shop Boys - I'm With Stupid
windows: broadband, dial-up real: broadband, dial-up Featuring David Walliams and Matt Lucas of Little Britain
who directed this...like little britian but still not enough to sell the song..
Blue Source
Wow ummm did the pet shop boys just say "Hmmm whos popular right now so we can look cool?" Because i thought the video was pretty boring and not that well directed either...
Catchy song.
Catchy indeed.
The video is a little disappointing, although the Walliams/Lucas double-act is thoroughly watchable as always. Perhaps the production team were expecting more creative input from the comics prior to filming? There is a sense of passed responsibility somewhere.
Er, I don't know much about PSB's catalogue besides their singles, but the song sounds formulaic.
The vid? This has some nice elements, but there's no real thrill to it. And I've missed Blue Source quite a bit.
seems like they never left the 80s. isn't it produced by Trevor Horn again?
Bush & Blair are lyrically the subject of the song...would a video that depicted this political critique push the controversy over the top? One can imagine that the artists may have had their 'hands tied' and perhaps forces that be suggested a less than literal dipiction of the subject matter...if i were in that situation this is most certainly the video i would make...and i would hope someone would pick up on the layers of irony and honesty...and give props to a sustained, and quite brilliant career since the 80's.
For a little perspective, check out the video for Flamboyant, two years old now but still a cracker.
I like the Walliams and Lucas video. Macabre, funny, bizarre and great pace. The choreography is cool. Love the references to old PSB videos. Like the fact that they didn't just go for the easy option of them appearing as their Little Britain characters. Not at all the usual schlock that results from comedian's appearing in Pop Videos.
It makes the song sound better than it is too. (Flamboyant is a way better song than I'm With Stupid though.)
by the way: does anyone has a better link to pet shop boys-videos? the files on their site suck. best one they ever did was "london" directed by Martin Parr -I can't find this online. (ever wanted to post it because of this discussion) ...
A little footnote: Pet Shop Boys had a stage show censored (effectively) on last week's BBC TV TOTP as it had a perceived bias in its political content.
Might an attempt to play down this political content be the cause of such an anodyne video in the first place?
thx for the mov. macguyver -cool username.
