Dear Nabil, If you would take your head out of your arse you would notice that I haven't actually commented here much lately, infact if I have commented in the last 3 months for the most part they have been positive remarks on work I have liked. Yes I give negative comments on some things that I don't like but watch because the band or something else interests me. What does this all mean you may ask? It means that there are things i like and things i dont like which means i have taste... ever heard of it?... well going on your portfolio of work I would actually say you have no taste and thus something like this video would pretty much make you blow your load....? Is that what happens?... or are you perhaps aware that your own work is not much better than this video and thus you take my comment as a personal insult?

Hey Nabil, maybe if you'd just pull your head out of your ass and take Kansas's advice you'd be a successful director by now and not just some sad anonymous poster on a message board.
Successful director? Very few people here actually say they like Nabil's work when it gets posted here. Take that last one for Kanye for example.
Just because you make music videos does not mean that you are a successful director. Making good music videos means your a successful music video director in my books.

Nabil, you need to get your head out of your ass and start making your videos to Kansas' liking if you want to get anywhere as a professional director. People on an indiecentric video message board aren't sure if they like your videos or not, and that's a huge problem for you. These guys have a ton of power- if they don't like your videos, they could end your career. If you care at all about your future, you should stop making things you like, and start making things they like asap.
Marc Webb is in a completely different league to Nabil.
Ma is an indie director, directing for an Indie band and I dislike his work. For me it's not about the style of the video or genre of the music it's about the quality of the video as a whole... ie ideas, imagination, atmosphere and directing skill.
But who knows maybe Nabil will be the next Michael Bay.

That is my honest opinion. Was ready to give it a go but gave up halfway through due to utter lack of interest on any level and thus was disappointed which seems to be the norm with all of Dave Ma's work. I do think his stuff is bullshit... quite often extremely pretentious. What's not boring about this? How many times do you plan to watch it? Crap?... yes in a final statement it is crap.

My god I hate it when people use the term "pretentious" to describe artwork. It makes no sense to describe artwork as pretentious without a contextual reference back to the person who created it. This indicates some knowledge of the artist and their intentions.
If this was the usual YouTube crap, showed a lack of craft, or was otherwise obviously bad, I would give you leeway with your comments, Kansas. But it's not. It deserves more than what you so dogmatically insist it does.
First: The song is solid. I always liked Foals for their technical skill (great players), but here, they've managed to capture a sound that - while not groundbreaking - is nonetheless evocative and interesting. Far more so than anything by their brethren like Bloc Party or Editors.
Visually, there is a lot to like here. Nice palette, and an obvious knowledge of how colours work together. Some very interesting shots (the cherry tree, the birds, the clouds), and a nice payoff in the surreal look of the set shots.
Good performance out of the band. Feels self-conscious enough to be honest, but not so much to feel awkward. Accurate sync on the performance as well.
If you want to attack a video like this, do so in a way that is not an argument ad hominem. People might actually listen, and something worthwhile might come out of the discussion.

hmm, you got me into watching the video and i ll say its not bad at all; although its basically some guys playing against a projection screen and some props, it all merges in a coherent colourful universe. there's a sense of evanescence about it, which i like. but u can say orient without having to show the actual cherry blossom treez, you know

There are a few forums I've been on where we had "lamer" filters for people who others frequently found irritating, were generally combative, or just plain lame. Not saying Kansas is worthy of such a thing, it was just funny and I hope she can take it with a grain of salt.
