Lightning Bolt "Halloween 2003, Live" by Mike Guadagni. In my opinion, the most important thing, power and authenticity... leave the rest.)
here in mov
wau. very very... i´m speechless.
that fuckin ruled...... and so did that drummer!!
that was awesome. I don't understand why people mime performance in videos. It doesn't make any sense to me and this shot badly on DV is like a hundred times better than anyone miming to play on a rooftop or some crap.
true
true, but lightning bolt watching "Lost" and humming along is probably better than any band on a rooftop. their sets are nigh transcendental. bona fide wrenching dionysiac frenzy (i mean the music, not the crowd, which is SOP at this point).
the POWER OF SALAD dvd has a paperrad video that is basically the best thing to ever occur in the course of human events. i don't know that it's online anywhere...
yeah, lightning bolt. great energy. did anyone knows mr. bungle? their live shows were great, too. the live-video for the song "travolta (quote/unquote)" is funny as hell.
awesome! catching the guy jumping at the end the video. timeless.
Jva I have that Power Of Salad dvd too. I confirm that its a treasure
dear otaku-house, luz... "shot badly" ?? like the life or live or not like mtvclean shot... mmmmm... question : jonas mekas, it's a movies maker ?? maybe, you prefer the illusion, actors, FX, good painting,.. i prefer the beauty of the reality, his ghost or just a illusion. nice to read the difference, that good :)
In a perfect world super 16mm would be easily accessible and affordable for people to shoot on.
DV has inured audiences to accepting shoddy camerawork. I think it's more the blanket approach of reality tv or just the inordinate amount of stuff shot on DV that ends up on television due to ridiculously low budgets. In any case, I think modern audiences have become accustomed to being fine with bad handheld work. Beautiful handheld work is entirely different.
The linear method by which DV treats light just lends itself to a certain flatness. I guarantee you that even a bolex right there would've made this at least more beautiful. And no, I'm not saying that it should be slicker - exactly what I'm not saying. I'm saying that I wish the people who shoot material like this could afford to shoot on film and it sucks that they can't.
damn cool...
I got no problem with wonky handheld DV. There used to be this guy 'fat john' who used to shoot every show in his cafe on one cam with camera mic.. and put 'em online.
for live music fans it often helps give a much better idea of what it would be like to be at a show, and to judge how good a band really is minus the tricky edits..
