animation is lame, animated performance is the lamest
i like the pig-headed lizards. the vision is nice and whimsical. not to dis the pretty animation, but part of me wishes these were the animated storyboards for a dark crystal - type muppet live action adventure.
i was expecting something cool (as usual). instead i get nils holgersson meets gorillaz.

bloc party aint really that great 4 vids sometimes, like the new banquet vid, completly prefered the old one but i think this is sort of cool, but again there are elements that I think could have been altered, e.g. they werent really that life like, which was especially annoying during the performace sequences. What would have been great would have been if it was in anime rather than 3d animation, (it does seem at times to try and replicate an anime style) But seems to go with the song ok

I think its heart was in the right place, but it seemed really awkward. There seems to be a lot of 3D animation aping anime (likeMikey3D): it looks great for a second or two, and then just fails where 2D animation wouldn’t. It’s trying to be all things to all people : both 3D and 2D.

I get the feeling the animators didn't go tour and hang out with a Bloc Party for a few weeks, trying to get their movements and mannerisms down.
Bloc party with yet another OK video. Man I wish these guys would get it together. All these vids and still nothing as good as the first two minimalist B + W videos.
I like the idea of seeing your friend fall unexpectedly and then making a decision to jump after him. That captured me a little in this otherwise bothersome video - not only is it fairly boring but I think animated caricatures is a bit premature. It's like getting your own action figure. It's something reserved for icons like KISS or the Stones. I dig BP but this is their first album forgodsakes. Come to think of it...I can't remember an animation of a band's likeness that didn't come off as either creepy or lame.
Dickensian - man, the mere mention of the Dark Crystal fills me with excitement. That's an idea worth pursuing. Keep it in-camera and gritty. Put together something crazy and whimsical/fantasy but without CG.
jdub - yeah right? i'm getting tired of all the antiseptic CGI. i just watched the dark crystal and it still stands out.
back to the essence. let's make it happen
I defend CGI animation, but it can't be rushed.

I feel like the only problem I have with this is the choices they made for the character's faces.... they should have tried something less Disney/anime.
I like the fantasy journey elements even if it feels a bit random (and a bit like the RHCP "Californication" video)
Does make you appreciate the Gorillaz animation... when's the next single due?

that "deux pieds" thing is beautiful. and you know that i love your CGI work, no need for defense.
The Guerillas have money to burn and Jamie Hewlett as an illustrator. This was done for sweet fanny adam (like all the other Bloc Party videos) and at least spared the band another day sitting around on set.
The inspiration was "Yellow Submarine" but in a smacky stylee and the directors did indeed get to hang out with the band and do some motion capture.
I think Russel is particularly good but what do I know.
You want to know why this video sucks? It's because the band does absolutely jack squat in it, except have things happen to them. That is the absolute OPPOSITE of what the song's about. Everything else is secondary. If the video did the song any justice, everyone who'd be watching it would be crying by the end. But low and behold in the part of the song where things are really building up, the absolute least happens. I'm gonna see if I can fix this.
Why is this the same video as Bloc Party "Helicopter" just a different song?
I know right? I think someone is doing a bit of recycling, maybe uk vs. us markets? what's old is new again on the other side of the water... but i am only guessing.
