That's a great video. There's obviously a certain built-in irony in these hipster guys doing a carefully choreographed dance routine, but what's great is that they take it deadly seriously; there's none of that "Oooh, we're going to be sloppy and dance badly because we are soooo ironic" contempt for what they're doing that sometimes sinks these kind of videos. Instead, the routine is very tight, and it's genuinely impressive that they managed to pull it off in a single take. I wonder how many takes they had to do to get it looking this good?
All in all, this is a great example of what you can do with no budget and no special effects if you're willing to work hard at it.

After poking around a little at the band's blog, I see that this dance routine was choreographed for them as a big "end of set" number for their live show. So I'm guessing that they just set up a camera in their back yard and filmed it without a director. I think Gondry was doing a different song for them.biccamera, June 29, 2005 10:38:15 AM CEST
