Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Over and Over
I love that!
YEAH! cute and lovely.
hm, yeah, a little...claustrophobic...
loved it!
so Joel Cohen did a spec. Good for him. Rhino, you and the band should lighten up.
yeah, specs are cool.
but casting a bland prep is inexcusable.
the band should have approved this, it's awesome. and fuck anyone that discourages making music videos for music you like.
This wasn't a spec video. I heard they totally ok'd the video. They just haven't posted it yet.
I think his dad is cool.
Rhino, why so angry? Even if it is spec, why do you care so much?
‘twas a fun video (in a kind of 80’s performance/Talking Heads sort of way) of a band I had not hear of until now. The director has been a fool passing this off as the official promo for the band (intentionally or unintentionally). All they had to do was to say it was an unofficial promo. It’s not that hard: I have seen un-used promos at festivals before, BUT they have made it clear that the band/record company (or whoever) have chosen another video. Then we can all enjoy (or loathe) it without, quite rightly, spitting blood about ethics. Yeah, and about Daddy’s money: my dad made me sell a kidney and one of my legs to go to college. Beat that, funding snobs.
i don't think this video was promoted as the "official" video... someone just randomly found it and posted it on a blog, so now the video's getting around. don't get your panties up in a bunch. it's a good video, good song by a band that has much potential.
secondly, i heard it's SUPPOSED to be up on the site, the band just hasn't posted it. as for talking shit on this kid, haterade much? funny how you say the band has gone to great lengths to NOT promote themselves much, yet pitchfork is all over their nuts, their cd release party was sponsored by VICE, and they're all over mp3 blogs. if they didn't want to promote themselves, they would've gone to these "great lengths" to request these kids to take their mp3's off their sites, nor would they be having a huge cd release party, nor would they have sent any promos to get their shit reviewed.
not talking shit on the band- just sayin.
rhino, for someone so concerned with the band's image, what should we draw from this?
- Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are friends with rhino.
- rhino calls people "little faggots."
I posted the video but I'm not the director. But I am a big fag! <3
no it's not "daddy's boy". just a random fan of the band that i discovered through pitchfork and other mp3 blogs.
secondly, it's YOU'RE not YOUR. if you're going to argue, at least have proper grammar.
and seriously, for someone who's so concerned with the band's image, you sure as hell don't put off a good one for the band. seems to me that YOU'RE the jackass.
Putting all of that shit aside - let's be honest, the videos not that good. It's pretty easy to see how they made it, you should never shoot ANYTHING in a white room, and the guy who prances around the whole time looks like a tool and is wearing an ugly green shirt.
And if you want to talk about the band liking it, it's cool if you want to make shit in your free time, but it's a fucking business. You have clients, and you have to turn out a product they are going to be happy with. If you can't do that then you'll be posting mediocre videos made with no money on this site forever.
I love the band but I have to say that this video BLOWS!!! It is just such a waste of a good song. One would think that people making videos these days would have an original thought and or vision and not just go back and rip off the 80's. If I wanted to watch an 80's video I would watch one that was actually made in the 80's.
any band concerned with their images is retarded.
Just a small piece of advice. I've been doing the video thing for about 10 years...vids on MTV, all over the world (who cares, right)...anyway...this kind of posting can do nothing but hurt the career of the director who made it. If he did so himself, he should be very wary...it is an incredibly small business and word gets around about this stuff very quickly...especially about a buzz band like Clap Your Hands And Say Yeah. If it was a friend of the directors...well. Don't do your friend any favors. You could kill his chances of actually having a career. I know the urge to post rejected work...you've spent blood and time on it and you want people to see it. Trust me...show it at home to people at a party or something.
For what it's worth.
is that true? I don't think there's quite the united front that some people lead us to believe. CYSYH, as hip as they are; have no sway over 95% of the artists who would view this video on this guy's reel.
Don't listen to rhino. Rhino = tundrahdesert = mr.blizzard = elliot elliot. He wanted to do their video, the dudes werent into it and so he's had a stick about this band ever sinse. I don't know why he's freaking out over this cohen character for pushing specs as legit work (which I don't think is true to begin with). Because elliot, didn't you do the same exact thing with the tv radio promo currently on your reel!? From that standpoint dude, your whole argument sounds "FUCKED UP!!!"
Another thing -- Discard the whole, this is a small business and you better suck my crotch. Untalented ego maniacs say this with the intent to keep you down. Solid work is solid work. End of story.
Don't be an asshole elliot. Or should I say the joke, mr. jokelson.
I have to wonder about what is going on here. ;-/ Tisk, tisk, tisk.....
I honestly have no idea what you're talking about...I'm not elliot. Don't have any other names here. I have just seen friends use stuff on their reels that labels rejected and then get blacklisted by that label. Arists may be very open minded, but the commisioners in this business talk ALOT and it's easy to get a bad rap. I wasn't ragging on the dude. Just giving some friendly advice. As much as I wish I would have written on CYHASY, I haven't yet had the pleasure. Good work is good work...but using music publicly from a band without their permission to sell yourself is flat out robbery.
Pardon my spelling...I had some...absinthe with dinner.
