Lord Wilson Vs. The LCD
: ) x
suipoib! i real example of talent enthusiasm and drive - been waiting to see the outcome of dougals "short break" great video - im gonna watch again!
excellent.... very Lucas with the Lid Off 2005. as awesome as it was... I think it just fell short of being classic because most of the footage was him just walking down a street - the one shot where he's falling was really cool but there could have been more. Maybe different outfits, different modes of transportation. Still, great work.
it is indeed a bit special and a welcome return from long lens wilson.
setups options were limited as this was a three month pursuit of the artist and time was running out before release.
dougals initial script was unfeasible because mr murphy was adamant that it had to be super 8 or bust and it only would have worked in a digital format...
so a rescript and then a hurried shoot in nyc but worth the effort for a killer record
Whither next for Wilson?
i had to watch again once i realized it was all one shot. well done.... i agree different modes of transport etc would have been cool, but the orchestration with the screens and sets etc were still damn impressive. me likes
that is not one shot. hidden cuts for sure. but nevertheless, an impressive acheivment. very nice.
i really enjoyed watching it, so that's just about all there is to it.
BUT i agree that it was very "lucas with the lid off". it sort of makes me think. gondry has already done this SORT of thing soooo well before. if you try to do anything like this, people will always think of gondry.
you're right about it not being one shot...i guess the feel is there, and that works for it...but it must have been early enough in the day that I naively believed for a moment
definately cool video, but the song...!?!? Maybe it's just me, but I had to mute my speakers half way through. Love the water cooler.
nice. the gondry comparison is naive, this stands on its own two feet. Capital video.
Great video. It confirms Dougal Wilson as one of my absolutely favorite video directors.
flipthefrog, naive?
anybody have a link to the "lucas" vid?
progosk you should buy the Michel Gondry DVD. Seriously, just watched his "I've been 12 forever" autobiography film again - awesome stuff.
You can get the video through Emule here. I just watched it for the first time myself. Around seven times in a row.
yeah, obligatory viewing that, captain. got it in the office, but they're shut til september, and for some reason i haven't got the lucas vid in my personal gondry archive... any links beside emule (don't work so well for mac...)?
the parallelism between gondry and wilson continues to unsettle me. both starting in animation (or thereabouts), both toying with re-inventing visual representation, each at a consummate level. both very high on the god-list, currently... (how long will we have to wait for dougal's first feature film? that said, if he stays true to the model, we'll need to wait for his second feature...)
