Bright Eyes "At the Bottom of Everything" dir. Cat Solen
terence stamp! wow...so that's what happened at the end of 'the limey' then.
uhm...at first i loved it, but then i stopped loving it when it got repetitive and the editing sort of seemed to be recycling itself.
Started great, then moved to the middle great, then it just stopped moving.
It's unfortunate because Cat's craftsy style took a big leap forward in this piece. The cloud gods were awesome. But then it turned into a redundant hug-fest and all the plane/cloud stuff ran together. Why was the story continuing in the air after it crashed? Maybe go underwater?
Find the rest of the story Cat...you're not done.
I bet they didnt have enough money to do more. It does start great, and kinda dies, I dont like Terrance Stamps final expression.
I think the plane probably exploded on impact and incinerated everyone, which is not the best way to close a video with such a positive message. Good video. -j
subtly spooky.
Jesus- the chick from "thirteen" has been in a bunch of videos- cool idea- not a bad video- what else has that Cat done??
if yall remember a post a long time ago from a band called carpark north (i forgot the song), they had a bunch of kids in that vid. one of the kids in that vid is also in this one for a spilt second :)!
I think it's a wonderful piece of work.
From the moment on, where the pictures don't show exactcly, what Conor Oberst is telling, it's a lovely clip.
this is shit...it could have been quite good but it pretty much falls apart..negating anything good about the first few moments of the promo...wake up you pussys
i agree 100% with someguy... that you all are pussies! SNAP!
I loved the beginning. Of course it was absoloutely literal and predictable - but it worked. Maybe it was the Hollywood stars.
The rest had its moments... but I agree, it would have been neat if they went somewhere else. Even though they're limited to a plane, there are other things to do. Remember the foo fighter's "learn to fly" video? Silly, but very entertaining.
and i agree 100% with salad fingers...that I am a pussy! as far as the video, i agree with what others have said. could have been great, but it gets bogged down around the middle and never really goes anywhere exciting after that.
I think we need to look at the big picture. When the old man says "its your birthday", he is instigating a metephor for us, the veiwers. We are the girl, the plane is the world and we are all at the mercy of the wind until we plumet from a hight (our life) and inevetably crash in to the sea (traditionaly a symbol for chaos) due to not only our own failings, but the failings of our fathers and our children and our leaders. The moment we are going to die is begun in the moment of our birth. It is not a linier story as jdub suggested. It doesn't have all the elements of a story, and I don't think Bright Eyes or Cat, were trying to make it one. It is an illestated metephor for bright eye's philosophy that our happiness lies in realizing our insignificance, and deciding to drink, kiss, hug and tell stories rather than become violent, resentful, and cynical. Job well done, Bright eyes
The message of the song isn't the problem. Linear or non-linear story is also not the problem. the problem is that the video ceases to be intriguing and starts to be boring about halfway through. Budget or no budget, with or without the song message, whatever - She got halfway. Was it part of Bright Eyes philosophy to make half of a good video?
Well, no, you are right there. I just thought that continuing the story underwater was absolutely the wrong direction and defeated the purpose of the metaphor. Maybe that song was just not written to have a video made from it. I maintain my opinion that is was good when I saw it. I don't think I'll watch it again. Once was enough. Some songs are best heard in a dark room and a glass of whiskey.
word to that. as much as I love the occasional amazing promo...mostly I hate them.
You guys are idiots! LOL! Did you not get what the song is about? Its about the carefree lives we should lead and not to worry so much because "we are really no one". The whole video is amazing. They don't crash in the middle of the song in the video, but who cares. It compliments the song beautifully and the animation is gorgeous. Just like "Bowl of Oranges" did - not necessarily followed what the story in the song was, but portraying the meaning and metaphor perfectly. You guys really have no idea. The effort these directors and producers put into these videos, only to be slagged off by a couple of people who dont like it because its "not how they see Bright Eyes" to be. Go listen to Fevers and Mirrors adn see if you can figure out an easy way of making one of those songs into a video. Shhhhheesh. Get real guys. The video is awesome and i cant wait for the release.
calm down.
