Dirty Projectors "Warholian Wigs"
Get a bit of Getty RIGHT HERE
Brachiating ninjas, sea-faring cicadas, and an emergent neolithic culture...
Dir. James Sumner
yes! archetypical shit. music and image in harmony. this sensibility is getting more and more refined with each dirty projectors piece. keep it up.
epic. (feels like bozzetto's prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune crossed with infinite fall.) love the heron supernova.
i love these
Incredible. Beautifully animated, too, especially the character movement.
SO fucking rad.
wait, so are all these not actually "music videos" but part of some larger work?!?
the chapter headings are no joke; this is a 13-chapter opera called the getty address. the dirty projectors album of the same name (western vinyl 2005) supplied story and music, i am making the visual realization for dvd release in 2006.
likewise the story is for realz, in its own abstracted fashion: a pre-Eagles Don Henley, archetypal colonizer and Romantic protagonist, sets out to discover the shape of love and the wilderness within his heart.
i appreciate all the kind word people offer. more will be up soon. that infinite fall thing is amazing, though veering on misogynistic if played for too long ;)
though there are various versions of "infinite fall" floating (literally...) around, it's the original, simpler ones that really strike me. i'm not sure what it is - there's something erotic/necrotic about its disarticulated physicality. (you can pull the body around with your pointer, or wedge it through the tight spaces between the bubbles.)
good call on "disarticulated physicality." if you pull'er hard enough the entire body comes apart for a second...it looks viscerally painful at times, like the scene in spiderman 2 when he lands on a car. good reference material, too.
