Placebo - Protège-Moi/Protect Me by Gaspar Noé?
Anyone know a link to the never released Gaspar Noé (Irreversible, I Stand Alone movies) clip for a Placebo track? Has anyone even seen it?
jeeez, don't tell my mom i watched that. Sacre bleu!
Many thanks, bataille! :)
it is away... :( could i get it some way too???
as far as I remember it is pure porn, isn't it? this might be the reason, why it has gone.
Here is a working link for the video. kubrick77.free.fr
I recently questioned this at my lj community. Inside The Wall I'm still not really sure whether it falls under art, porn or both.
VERY nice blog you've got going there, otha! obligatory bookmark...
Yeah, I just had to throw in that shameless plug :p
Nice blog. I was about to post on here about the similarities between Noe, Winterbottom's 9 Songs, and Gallo's Brown Bunny, but you obviously beat me to it. I consider them to be cheap and without soul. 9 Songs has to be one of the worst films I've seen, and Irreversible ranks close to it in level of self-indulgence. It's like watching a bad dancer getting down to good music.
Conversely, something like Barry Smiths video for "Plug Me In" by Add N to (X) (www.ifilm.com) is without such pretence, and comes across as a legitimate exploration of art-porn.
I wouldn't say that they have no soul, more like they are lost souls. The only socially redeeming values that these films portray is a reflection of a very large subculture of people that are close to dead on the inside. True beauty in life is impossible to reach and the only feeling that can be attained is through self-degradation.
I actually thought Brown Bunny did a good job of showing this in a overly self-indulgent sort of way. Noe's only saving grace is his brilliant camera work. He is actually trying to nauseate his audience, and he generally succeeds.
I must admit I have to laugh, if I read the word art-porn, the placebo-clip is porn, and porn is porn like a rose is a rose.
Spreech: I think it's about artist intention rather than the visual results; remove intention and yes, porn is porn.
Otha Star: Nauseating the audience is easy... it really is. I mean, coming up with weird/offensive/obtuse imagery or back-story is not necessarily a difficult task. So movies like 9 Songs or Irreversible are lessons in boredom as a result of their contrived intentions and obvious conclusions. On the other hand, straight graphic porn exists - as I said - without such burdens, and even though the conclusion is foregone, the road is far more interesting or - at least - watchable.
When I say they lack soul, I mean in a purely visceral way.
familiar: Mh, yeah -but then I gotta say: I didn't see here an artist intention; remove porn and there is nothing.
download link for the ifilm mov of Barry Smiths video for "Plug Me In" by Add N to (X), fwiw (i just hate when they embed stuff...)
Spreech: Agreed. But I think that's the point?
no cool sex... easy esthetic.
familiar: Yeah, maybe. Anyway. I hate porn. It reminds me being a teenager.
For any Noe fans out there, I just got back from Sundance where I saw "Destricted" premiere, a compilation of 7 shorts all about Sex & Porn, directed by 7 directors, including Noe, Larry Clark, and Matthew Barney among others.
Noe's portion was 10 minutes of strobing sex scenes that made half the audience leave and the projectionist pass out. Good stuff Gaspar. Larry Clark's part was amazing though.
