LL Cool J & J Lo "Control Myself" dir. Hype Williams
One of Hype's better uses of the quickly-overused B-roll Bars (more). The song is hot, and this vid is hotter on TV.
windows stream - ifilm MOV (thanks mvstills)
This video makes me dizzy. Too much information coming at you at one time. I like it better when things are kept simple. Like "Gold digger", where the bars help trademark the video and separate it from the pack.
Yep, that's the biiig problem with those bars. They work okay in the Beyonce vid cuz they're just pink satin curtins. I hope Hype stops using them, overall.
I really like the mirror images in this vid, though. Works in a strange way (a la "When Doves Cry")
There yougo, if anyone wants to download:
Quicktime, 9 Mb Mpeg inside ZIP, 80 Mb
hype will stop using them but EVERY other lame ass hip hop vid director is probably busy adding them to a million videos right now. Get used to it for a year or so.
If only the whole video was as aesthetically solid as that still up there. Nice use of the Technics CDJ displays.
i wonder was that conceived from the get-go or is that a great editor working from nothing? Either way I dig it - damn J-Lo looks unbelievable.
Hype is dropping the b-roll bars. (Jey says)
"The idea came from the use of negative space," Williams said on the set of Mary J. Blige's "Enough Cryin", explaining his use of extra footage. "We're so used to looking at letterbox because of DVDs, that everyone's brains tunes into what's in the middle and there's nothing that fills up the entire TV screen anymore."
Hype is also going to shoot a new Kanye vid soon.
