Is this really what British TV was like in the 70's? If so I love it.I can’t get over how much Will Young looks like the generic encyclopaedia "Neanderthal man".

Some pretty cool footage and recreating 60's, 70's and 80's aesthetics seems to be whats 'hot' these days in music video, as well as in many arts. I dont quite understand, was this a real show or a generic mockery of the shows back then?birryboy, March 31, 2006 10:21:15 AM CEST
It's a real show alright, called "Blue Peter", which is still running and is a "magazine" show for kids with stuff about animals, history, the environment and so on and the presenters going off to learn to skydive etc. They've inserted Will into a load of clips from the show's classic period in the '70s and '80s, and yes this is EXACTLY what British telly was like then. For Will's next video I hope they give the same treatment to Worzel Gummidge.shogunblues, March 31, 2006 11:51:19 AM CEST
This IS footage from then...they haven't recreated it - they just inserted Will Young in. Its been done well, but its style over content isn't it? -dressing up a bad song so it will get press and airtime.

Well done. This guy seems to have a good hand for the right producers & directors. I mean, it is really not my kind of music but close to the perfect bubblegum-popsong.

wow bravo Dougal for taking on such a lame song. Not knowing the show (remotely; they really didn't make this for a US audience) I feel like i didn't really "get it" even though it was well done. His Dizzee "Dream" video, on the other hand, could've been a direct homage of a show but it still translated to audiences not in on it.
Maybe this is how the Brits felt about Weezer's "Buddy Holly" ?

here's blue peter - looks like a fun show. This is definitely a vid for ppl who grew up with the show, so, er, um, good job Dougal! Yeah!pops, April 1, 2006 1:48:04 AM CEST
didn't grow up with this show, but thought this was awesome.biccamera, April 2, 2006 7:29:22 PM CEST
Everyone here got the Buddy Holly video as we had been treated to countless re-runs on Happy Days for years. The format for Blue Peter would never have translated to the US. Its so utterly patronising. All I can remember of it is someone cleaning Nelson's Column, brass bands and gymnastic displays in the studio. Bundle of laughs.benroll, April 3, 2006 11:54:31 PM CEST
I assumed 'Dream' was based on Andy Pandy, but was plenty much more satirical and irreverent. Like SJs Weezer vid this is pure pastiche, which I guess is why it doesn't travel so well outside the UK.Nice to see something so shamelessly British though, so a Blue Peter badge for directing to Dougal.
