is it wrong if i really enjoyed the miss murder video?
other than that nothing special, i also enjoyed the Chili Peppers/Tony Kaye vid. but C'MON! Promiscuous?
You'll notice that Breakthrough Video and MTV2 Award have been eliminated. Alas, Breakthrough! We shall miss your cloudy interstitial forever!
Those Video of the Year choices suck, btw. Madonna is the only quality, iconic, rotated video up there, imho. The noms also missed out on both Kanye vids "Gold Digger" and "Touch the Sky", among other things..
oh i forgot about "Touch the Sky"
There are others.. If I have spare time later perhaps I'll nominate my own 5 for MTV, since they need help.. There are vids floating around in my head..
damn, the breakthrough video.... even though in the last few years the category had lost some luster(Franz Ferdinand's After Effect video?? it was always a fun cateogory. Actually it would be cool if they had reinvented the category; honoring work that just goes outside the music video categories, instead of just best special effects or whatever.
and seriously, BEST VIDEO GAME SCORE ? wtf?
and someone commented the difference between rap and hip-hop video. I guess I could see categorizing Common as hip-hop and 50 Cent Rap, but how then is Three Six Mafia a hip-hop group?

Kevathens' MTV VMAs Overlooked List of 2006
These vids were added to MTV between July 1, 2005 and June 30, 2006, and should have gotten some VMA love.
Kelly Clarkson "Walk Away" Kanye West "Gold Digger" / "Touch the Sky" The Killers "All These Things That I've Done" Fort Minor "Petrified" nine inch nails "only" White Stripes "My Doorbell" Franz Ferdinand "Do You Want To" Audioslave "Doesn't Remind Me" Gorillaz "Dare" Death Cab for Cutie "Soul Meets Body" Coheed and Cambria "The Suffering" LL Cool J + JLo "Control Myself" Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Gold Lion" Arctic Monkeys "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" (well, not played very much so I'd disqualify it) Mariah Carey "Say Somethin'" Wolfmother "Woman" (added to MTV July 3 only) Lupe Fiasco "Kick Push"
Meanwhile, MTV would have done well to make these the 5 Video of the Year nominees:
Video of the Year Madonna "Hung Up" Kanye West f/ Jamie Foxx "Gold Digger" The All American Rejects "Move Along" Pink "Stupid Girls" Gnarls Barkley "Crazy"
T.I. "What You Know" might replace Gnarls Barkley. Kelly Clarkson "Walk Away" should replace Pink. And "Touch the Sky" might replace "Gold Digger".
I'm surprised LL Cool J "Control Myself" wasn't nominated.
Overall, looking at all the eligible vids, it's clear how this wasn't a very unifying, star-making, or great year for MTV/popular videos.
Hell:
Breakthrough Video nine inch nails "only" Gnarls Barkley "Crazy" White Stripes "The Denial Twist" (MTV2 add) Gorillaz "Dare" Beck "Girl" (VH1 add) or Beck "Hell Yes"
I see why they got rid of it: breakthrough vids were either on VH1 or mtvU or, as we understand thoroughly, not added at all.
