Wolf Parade - I'll Believe in Anything (Matt Moroz)
(Via Shots Ring Out. Linked to page out of respect for them.)
I was just coming on here to post this. Actually saw it on the WP fan site, didn't even know it was on SRO. But great video, I love it
erm, interesting. can't say i'm really eager to see it again (and i can't possibly imagine listening to more than one track like that per week) but: interesting.
matt's big mov - direct mov links allow podcasters to download the vid, padriac, btw
VideoFACT strikes again - excellent vid, interesting photography/telecine. I wonder if MTV will ever air it, they're not down with murder anymore.
yeah can someone explain? i didn't think sub pop had money for this stuff. so i'm really impressed on a budgetary level... though i dunno it doesn't really worked for me.
one idea - a short film recut into a music video??
I don't think so, because I'm almost postive the band was in there. I couldn't really tell though with the wigs and stuff, but the last dueler that gets killed looks a lot like Spencer
For a video with enough of a budget for period-piece costumes, make-up, and locations, (not to mention multiple days of shooting), this really felt like an opportunity that wasn't fully realized. I think this is a case of using too much restraint-- trying too hard to be subtle-- and not giving anyone anything to talk about.
Is that the band members playing the characters? This might have been more effective if we'd been dealing with recognizable faces. Maybe seeing Death Cab For Cutie, Franz Ferdinand, or even The Killers in a similar treatment would have made for some interesting moments, but with Wolf Parade, we might as well be watching community theatre performers.
VideoFACT gives you 20K Canadian, supposedly matched by the label. - I strongly suggest seeing this on TV to get the full experience. Matt's MOV should do the trick, but for some really weird reason it doesn't - I had a much different experience seeing it on TV.
Wicked idea; t'is a good thing it came out now and not after Sophia Coppella's new film. ;) As for the Death Cab comment, that's absurd. People who follow the indie scene know Wolf Parade. They're new record's huge. -j
Jesse, Sure, Wolf Parade has sold a lot of albums, but I don't really think that most of the people who "follow the indie scene" could pick their members out of a line-up (especially under powdered wigs). I think a video like this would have been more effective if the band had more of a media presence (which is why I used Death Cab as an example- they're practically reaching household name status). Sure, it might be kinda of funny and interesting to see your favorite band dressed up and running around in period-piece costumes, but that sort of treatment is at its strongest when it involves a band or performer that people actually recognize. The average MTV2 viewer is probably going to be left wondering if the band was in this video at all.
The band performs as the band in the ballroom scene; and that's Arlen (keyboards, electronics) at the end inspecting the body.
I thought the execution was good; concept could have been pushed a bit further. It certainly doesn't match the pace or colour of the song. When they play this live, it's pretty frantic and gets the audience dancing. This vid seems more in line with a ballad.
I saw this 3 days ago and still can't get it out of my head!
I don't know if it's the infectious song or that it just really whet my appetite for Sofia's new film, but either way I find it utterly enchanting.
