The Roots - The Trilogy Video (dir. Asif Mian)
3 songs and 3 concepts in one video.
A daunting task for Mian; who had done the influential Aesop Rock "Fast Cars" video from last year. Post work by Eightvfx
ho!
- deinterlace dis - now!
- axe the product placement - now!
- the rest is nearly awesome. (whatup with the end truncation? shame that the polygraph was prob'ly the least of all the ideas in this...)
yes i agree this is pretty excellent. the shadowplay was brilliant.
the 2nd part had great compositing mixed with some so-so 3d; my only qualm was that it had shadows - I love the idea of 3 concepts for 3 songs.
And the polygraph- I thought it was done 10x better than the Avenged Sevenfold video, didn't wear out its welcome and was a lot better acted. Too bad they both came out at the same time.
the lies detector videos.antville.org i think we have a trend here !
However, this video came out 2 months ago...
Haa, Progosk I had the exact same thoughts watching. I can forgive the interlacing cause it's just how it was posted. But come on, having Black Thought shill for an N90 is a sad statement on how underfunded music videos are - or perhaps how greedy labels can be... maybe both. That said the video is solid, and the notion of promoting multiple songs in a vid is intriguing (and they may as well if, again, the funding dictates you've got to get more promotional power out of every vid a band makes).
I have a feeling that if we saw this on TV we'd notice how ineffectual the compositing is. 3D, yeah, is so-so. The Saline Project did a better job with Don't Say Nuthin'. (Alas, comparing these two files - er, vids - on the computer is just not going to work here.)
Overall its main problem would seem to be, yes, under-fundage. Sorry state, indeed.
