The Sounds "Painted By Numbers" dir. Markus Johnson
I like it.
I have a personal vendetta against The Sounds. When I saw them open up for another band a year ago she spit into the crowd (which landed on my face) when she complained that nobody was dancing or getting excited by their bland-ass music.
To me this video seems to echo that blandness that I experienced at the concert - except nobodys spitting on me...I don't see any expression in this video. Nothing exciting is happening with the bandmembers - and the little energy that is put into the performance is lost when they try to animate all that ultramodern box-number shit.
Wow, Jemina Pearl from Be Your Own Pet had the same complaint at a show of theirs last week. Only she threw water into the crowd. Maybe it's a band thing.
yeah, i liked it to. weow!
i know nobody likes a negative nancy, but come on. nothing about this video is "bad", but it's just so mediocre in every way. it's another video. don't you ever want to see something better than that?
i gotta say that i didn't mind the video. it had some good qualities from a design standpoint. i know they didn't have much money to work with, so they got a lot of bang for their buck on the look at least. yes it's a little bland, and yes it doesn't really capture the band chemisty (that's what happens when you put each band member in a separate box). but maja looks good, and sad to say but thats probably the most important thing to get right.
Yeah, I'm guessing that the budget was pretty low on this one and they were happy to have a video with some production value and some cute shots of the lead singer. I'm pretty sure those boxes are available at Ikea.
I think its great. Fast, kinetic editing; new ideas introduced at just the right moments; and the production values - like the track - are high.
I do agree the performance (I, like the director, was only looking at the singer) lacked love, if not energy.
WHATEVER I still have a favourite b&w mv in Sophie Muller's This Is Love for PJ Harvey.
Is it just me, or do there seem to be rather a lot of crotch shots in this video? I haven't been watching MTV lately, so maybe I'm just out of touch - but it seems that after seeing the video I am more familiar with the singer's crotch than I would ever have expected to be.
It's strange, but I'd agree with c'marc c'bob. This kept reminding me of other videos, lots of them European (Madonna's Human Nature, Maximo Park's Pressure v1 + Graffiti, Bjork's Violently Happy, Robert's Les Jupes, Johan Renck's Revl9n vid.. $20 says Akerlund did a Roxette video that had similar shots.)
Yeah, that was crotchtastic.
she's obviously spent a lot of time shaving it and making it very presentable so why not show it off!?
crotch shots are so hot right now - they are this years big tits
has anyone got a link to fedde le grands 'put your hands up for detroit'?
currently number one in uk air play charts...
how come you haven't got a link, mr H, you only bloody commisioned it!!! Nice job, though! As for this video, I reckon she used to be a man...
i can only find a extract on quicktime but i think it does go to illustrate my theory:
or wmv of full video here:
i'm increasingly concerned that she's a dude.
that aside, i don't think i've seen a single good video for the sounds, which is kinda disappointing cause i want to like them. what was all that ridiculous flag-waving-in-cuba action when the new album came out? poppycock.
spankle, clearly u possess a pair ov x-ray specs? coz all I can see is a pair ov black briefs, crotchtastic or no
