Pussycat Dolls ft. Timbaland - "Wait A Minute" - Dir. Marc Webb
The PCDs take the train then stop traffic. MOV You Tube
Hey, I thought this site was for music videos and this is obviously a mobile phone commercial!
I/G/A (Interscope et al) must have some weird long-term contract with techno-gadget companies. They've been doing the ad thing for a few years now (50 Cent, Gwen Stefani, Fergie, The Roots..). This and the Fergie ads are serious turn-offs for me. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but God it's lame. I've always been a bit of a Luddite though.
Certainly sucked less than Fergie. I have to say I am impressed that they shot on the LA MTA with a kid. As far as I know you can only get on subways from 2am - 6am which is too late for the little ones. Would love to hear how that was accomplished.
I stopped watching as soon as i saw the product placement.
yeah product placemant sucks, but its a necessary evil with some labels, plus it can sometimes afford you an extra day of shooting. i liked the subliminal message of this video: "dont drive, take the subway...there are strippers on the subway" haha. i thought the video was ok, i miss marc's rock videos, but at least when he does pop he does it on location. the handheld camera was a little much for me, on the web it's ok, but when you see it on TV you'll agree with me (same goes for his Teddy Geiger video). but the most important thing the video did for me was give the girls a little personality. sure, they still come off as oversexed strippers, but at least they stay semi-clothed in this one and look like they are having fun with Timba'.
Timbaland's acting cracked me up in this video. He almost made it worth watching all the way through. Also the Doll's clothes get even more ridiculous in every video they do. Who the fuck is dressing them? As for the video, it warrants a "meh" on the Marc Webb scale.
regarding product placement. Yes, it is often annoying. But there is no way this video gets made without the money from the product placers. The LA subway stations are VERY pricey to shoot in and shutting down traffic (even though it is only in front of everyone's favorite MV locale, the Alexandria Hotel) is not cheap either. There seem to be waaay to many shots of the device, but that seems to be the way it happpens these days. The product placers are specifying the amount of screen time (down to the second) their product gets and how much of that time is sharing the screen with the star.
That being said, the product placement IS quite annoying in this clip. I was about to get mad then I realized - the whole damn video is product placement. Every video is wall to wall product placement. The artists ARE the product and they are being sold, just liike the cell phones. That realization calmed me right down.
Copy-rights , youtube has removed this video ... make another link
Done yak (better res/direct links extremely welcome).
More phone placement in Nicole Sherzinger's previous collaborative single with P Diddy: Come To Me (Real/WMV Dir. Chris Robinson).
You Tubed cell phone videos of the Wait A Minute shoot here and here. A host of production stills, including the shot at the head of this post courtesy of pussycatdolls.nu
Not that it really makes a difference, but it's not a cell phone. It's actually a DAP (digital audio player) with a slide out speaker from samsung which I thought was only available in korea.
I was really interested in buying one. Yet at the cost of sounding juvenile... oddly after seeing the product placement, sort of leaves with a cringe to the idea. I mean really, what self respecting person would want anything endorsed by the pussycat dolls.
well if you did want it they have it at best buy for like $230 and some other places apparently as well. heres the official samsung link...
when you think about it its a really cool little contraption
does anyone have the qt version of the video? i would appreciate it if they do.
