Blur "Music is my Radar" : Dir. Don Cameron
dead link?
link fixed!
Delightfully boring! Maybe I'm not picking up on something cultural?
loved it, and was about to spew about the rare choreography, then checked and saw it was (who else?) bianca. fantastic art direction&styling, perfect subtle edit, really liked the off-the-air tone of this.
damn! just a couple months back some of that gear was up for auction (lot 114)...
Blur have a great relationship with their promos in terms of how their style, look and sound have developed alongside the promos that get made for the singles. The Empty, silly 'country house promo by shark man was a true low point but look at the promo for 'popscene'........miles ahead of its time back in 1992.........whilst it may be for the cameras you cannot help but love the sarcastic out-of-the-wayness the 3 members give off, happy to remain in the shadows, smiling wisely at the stupidity of the costumes, poses and daftness of the dancing on offer. Rollerball meets daftpunk in a bollywood epic. A great music video..............great sets and cinematography well directed with a smile on the faces of all involved..........if you dont get it......it could be the fact that you are not a blur fan.......as is the case with many bands and their videos these days.
country house was directed by damian hirst (i think) and featured perennial forearm favourite joanne guest and a host of other top page three girls de jour alongside lily allen's dad keith who for the non-uk readers is a lovable rogue/bit of a cock who has also appeared in videos for new order (e for england) and fat les (vindaloo)
i love this video. don cameron's degree film - soundtracked by mathew herbert - remains one of the best i've ever seen and this was its natural conclusion
i suppose it falls into the love it or hate it category but compared to those manc fuckwits oasis - main rivals at the time - this is simply light years ahead
some say: style over substance.
we say: who gives a fuck its a music video?
Blur are in that fine family of great video bands, for lack of a better term. We really don't have many of those today, partly due to budgets. The Knife is the most important 'video band' this year, imo. (Sorry, Death Cab)
Would I be incorrect in saying that Carole Burton-Fairbrother commissioned a good amount of Blur's videos, hass?
This video is just classic. I love it.
i think faith holmes did most of the blur videos - she certainly did this one
has recently quit commissioining to become a shoemaker or something similar
she will be missed as she was up for doing something interesting any chance she got
Amazing! It was a strong ballsy choice to have the central characters be bored with the performance and waiting fot it to end and I think it was pulled off wonderfully. I thought it showed a very sophisticated humour.
"has recently quit commissioining to become a shoemaker or something similar"
what a genius.
so fresh. awesome stylings. nice pace. good set.
