Tom Waits "Lie To Me", Dir. Danny Clinch
whats the idea of this? stop-motion? very stop. horrible framing. its not what a guy like waits deserves.
it was a photoshoot, that was only subsequently morphed into a video.
I agree with daku. Is horrible and boring to watch. I think the original idea might be good, like the old black and white photos style, dirty look, etc... but is zero developed. It's looks more like an rough animatic than a final music video.
I think the fact that it was a photo shoot that became an impromptu video is something that is particularly appropriate for Tom Waits. IMHO what makes this both wonderful and unique is that the general vibe here couldnt careless about precision or standards. Instead the video is all about a character and mood that feels exceptionally Tom Waits. If it fails to entertain Im not quite sure that makes it anyless good of a video for Tom Waits.
He was so good in Dracula.
Agreed Hakai...I cant really picture anyone else playing Renfield. He tends a pretty mean bar in Rumble Fish too.
equally unforgettable in coffee&cigarettes with iggy.
Tom Waits gets some interesting videos, they aren't always the most fun to watch but they always seem to fit his personality really well. One that I remember is him swigging whiskey and singing with a ventriloquist puppet. It was a little hard to watch for four minutes but it suited him.
i really like this! i think you have to be a big fan of the music to 'get' it though.
just as quixotinyc said above, it's full of character and mood and feels very 'waits'. very free and impromptu looking which i think is harder than it looks to create.
