Aimee Mann - Video (James Frost)
James Frost approached Aimee asking if he could use her as a guinea pig to try out some old 1970's filters he had recently purchased in Paris. She agreed lovingly, and a date was set. It was shot sometime in May 2005 at James' producer's house in Eagle Rock, California. The piece of 16mm film (600ft to be exact) was shot on a Bolex camera with 2 lights and a flashlight in 4 hours using the different filters for various sections of the song. It was never used and distributed officially for 3 reasons: 1.) It was never meant to be a video, but James wanted to use the whole song so that if the filters worked he could give back to what had been given to him. An artist who was willing to take time from her touring schedule to indulge in his experiment. 2.) By the time of its completion it was felt that Aimee's record had come to it's marketing expiration date. After all it did take 10 months to complete on a favor basis. 3.) It was felt that MTV/VH1 whoever were not in the equation so why spend money trying to get those folks involved anyway. Most of all it was made just for kicks. (www.film400.com)
Glad there is a backstory posted as well. Surprisingly watchable considering the parameters. What I mean is that I would not expect to sit through someone playing around with filters. Simply well shot.
Not bad. Simple. Didn't take away from the song.

wicked vid. an inspiration. 4hrs eh? wow...i'm a little confused by the '2 lights and a flashlight'. seems like there are quite a few more sources than that...
I can confirm that it was 2 fluorescent 3ft tubes (from home depot) a whole bunch of Christmas lights & a flash light placed behind Aimee in the second verse to cause the diffraction.
