Scissor Sisters "She's My Man" (dir: Nagi Noda)
Their third single from the album Ta-Dah. Brilliant new video from Partizans nagi noda. see it on <a href=www.youtube.com>youtube
FLV The music video was shot with an unmoving camera in a single, continuous take in Tokyo. All effects are in camera. Kurokos (Kabuki stagehands dressed all in black) manipulated both props and characters to create the illusion that camera angles and perspectives are changing and people and objects are moving (even in slo-mo or FF). Remember "Matrix Ping Pong", the Pet Shop Boys' "Flamboyant" (Nico Beyer) or Petra Jean Phillipson's "One Day" (James Griffiths).
old idea. still good. the chinese ping pong match is here: www.youtube.com
Ain't chinese.
... yawn. (nagi out of ideas already? whazza world comin' to...?)
I can't figure out if that's a Breakthrough Vid or not, given Pumping on Your Stereo. Excellent work anyway, though there was something lost in translation.
100% breakthrough kev??? I love the Kurokos method and have enjoyed it mightily for a good few years since it first cropped up in my western-world. Since Matrix ping pong it's been employed in many guises- most notably, a pepsi ad for the Uk a couple of years back... www.youtube.com directed by Chris Palmer ???? Now... I know, I know... pepsi budgets aint small... but neither are sissor sisters budgets in a no-budget promo world...
This was fun and like the pepsi ad, had some truly inventive moments that reflect and play with Japanese/eastern culture.
However, Nagi's promo left me cold. Why in god's name do people seem to think that a one-shot video makes things better? This was slow and stilted- plain boring in places and the single-shot method undermined all of the good work and inventiveness that went into this. Why not cut into the action like the pepsi ad. It obviously gives you the room to work on some of the choreography more and some more inventive things can be done. I felt so far away from the action in this video that I simply gave up caring after 30 seconds... I wanted to see the facial expressions and some of the detail in close-up, I wanted Nagi to play with angles to amplify the action.
Stop trying to be One-take geniuses and concentrate on film-making people. They didn't invent the language of film so that everyone should ignore it and film their videos from 30 feet away just so that everyone could appreciate the spectacle of their concept....
ah... the "100% breakthrough" comment got pulled!!! Fair play...
Hear hear!
I only like one take videos if they're constantly changing locations.
This could have been broken into 5 chunks and still been cool. Where are the other band members?
Still neat, though; but not breakthru.
Beck/Shynola also used "black" people (subtlely) in E-Pro.
I liked the pepsi ad - funny choreographie. fresh ideas. compared to that the scissor sisters are really boring
I agree, Nagi has got to leave one-takeland and enter editoria.
One trick and pony.
The Pepsi Max ad is actually by Chris Palmer's Gorgeous mate Tom Carty. Download "Can Fu": mov, mov, wmv. Keep fighting the U2b reflex!
i haven't seen this video, as i saw the brits, and am assuming its the japanese thing with a black curtain and people dressed in black moving stuff about 'seemingly invisible'. yay. wow. About as breakthrough as Nathan Barley wasn't 3 years late.
Also... hmm... how much of the action would have been 'directed' by the guys in black rather than the director... and as its all one shot how much of the camera work too?
i suppose if i watched it that may help answer my questions.
watched it (actually only made it half way through).
crikey badness.
still very awesome promo, one take suits the technique. maybe it is the song that is putting people off and the fact the technique has been used a huge 3 times before.
Update: Quicktime File
From Partizan. Posibly deleted soon.
white suits here, similar idea:
pretty cool.
Scissor Sisters/Brits performance from Feb 14, 2007 mirrors Nagi Noda's vid. I'm guessing the idea came from Nagi's treatment?
she's my man permanent mov
Nagi Noda fell off a building yesterday apparently. She is alive, apparently.
TODDYOKOH - is that true?
And here I was thinking I had said apparently enough. I am even a little sketch to say something that is so personal. Anyhow, please think send good vibes the right way.
tod: where can send?
!!
I have edited my first post to better reflect the nature of the information.
-Hearts, minds and prayers. I reckon thats how healing happens.
not true.
RIP Nagi Noda...
