Arctic Monkeys "Brianstorm" (Dir. Huse Monfaradi)
Here's the newest Arctic Monkeys video that just came out today. Warning: This video is very different from all their other videos.
Thanks for the warning. Boy I'm having a tough time putting my finger on how I feel about this thing. I like the flashes of people by the pool.

I actually like this way better than Romanek's Speed of Sound which just goes to prove that execution is everything. This one has a sick edit. The stock footage non-sequitars remind me of The Strokes.
dont know how i feel either, i wanted to stop watching, im not sure...
I wanted to like it, I think Huse can be great albeit hit & miss. This is waaaay overcut and has no real pace. A bit of a runaway train but perhaps that's what they wanted. I don't think it's in anyway comparable to speed of sound except for a few bright coloured lights! Wonder what the budget was??
demis husos!
er, shouldn't it be brainstorm, not brian storm?!
Its Brianstorm...a play on the word brainstorm i presume. I think the song is about a guy called brian.
Horrible title. Horrible font on the new packaging. Seem like a band that need one less yes man around them...
This video, however, is good. I like it because it is exactly what you wouldn't expect from the band and I think that is a 'good thing'.
I take it we are allowing the mish mash of aesthetics in the video to slide due to the fact that it is interesting.
Do agree that it is over cut, especially in the first half. No real progression in the video.
Aside from that I am very pleasantly suprised. Definitely caught my attention, got me thinking and has got people talking about it. Probably the first Arctic Monkeys video I have watched all the way through since the last one Huse did for them...
but i couldn't see any of the band's faces.
yep. it's too neurotic. Hope I will manage to escape it's heavy rotation on TV. Epilepsy friendly.
I agree with the run away train comment. I wanted to like it, but it just felt like a bit of a mess.
Stereogum's comment, "the Klaxification of the Arctic Monkeys" summed it up nicely, except you usually get to see The Klaxons' faces (and occasionally, midriffs) in their videos. It's unsatisfying that the band is obscured in favor of stock imagery and tired back-up dancers. Not much to look at and over-edited to compensate for the lack of imagination.
i think this is really, really excellent.
fucksake - who cares what we all think? it's gonna be played to shit and people will like it...next!
i also feel a nice video has been wrecked with overcutting, cos there's good looking footage in here wanting to breathe a bit.
for me the best of the growing mound of 'framed against a screen' videos has to be new order's crystal. your man renck isn't scared to hold or compose his shots, and the results seem far more impactful, with much more attitude.
and it doesn't make my eyes vomit.
still, something refreshing for the monkeys, right?
jesus so english. what a terrible band! video suits the them as it's total crap too. no wonder the director didn't want to put her name too it. nice vjing though. i hadn't seen that vintage footage yet.
Huse is a man dumbass
for me the edit completely reflects the random nature of the track. there is no verse/chorus/verse/chorus structure. think out of the box people! Damn there's some haters out there!
it is very hard to judge a video off the web, if it is graded for TV you need to watch it on one, and anything on youtube is generally out of sync, so looking at an edit is generally difficult
not my cup of pee...
Arctic Monkeys-mov - This video makes me dizzy, too, even in higher resolution. Not sure it would work on TV either, but you never know.
broadcast quality mpg (168 MB)
so surefooted despite the critically high energy - this one's really growing on me. (iced: indeed, on both counts.)
that's some pretty bold commissioning
Just saw this on TV - the edit makes a lot more sense on the telly, and the vid's pretty good, imo.
