HOLY HAIL "Born of A Star" (DIR: ELLIOT JOKELSON)
I really like this.
any one know how this was done?
fractals and undersea amoebas are ok, as for the rest....
neat. its video layers stacked basically, then on some they are rotated, really simple and very striking.
we did the same thing a few months ago with the studio sections of a Midnight Juggernauts video
Can be done by hand but I know there's a plugin in after effects that does this as well (Echo, or Echospace maybe). Najork would know.
costom modules in jitter..real time effects.
now HERE is a video that could really use some deinterlacing before it was uploaded. The above shot seems to fluctuate because the frames are all blended together. I would love to see this in 24P.
Here's a question: why aren't more music videos finished in 24P? It's a much better format for web, as well as DVD (provided they have an encoder that can work with telecine flags).
But I thought the fractals were great; though the song sounded like something one of your friends would record.
The simplicity is refreshing. While a treatment based solely on a repeating effect, this holds some attention and matches the song style well. There have been a bunch of vids that I have seen lately that are takes on effects that have a "throwback" aesthetic. This one is the top of the heap as far as those go. Nice.
Right you are Capt...We just put up a new link to a deinterlaced QT.
I wanna fractal all over the guitar chic
the fractals and curvy repeating band members are effing sweet. suits the song. actually kind of beats the song.
I hate to sound like I'm nitpicking but doesn't really look like it. My guess is that this was shot at 24P, but the effects were all done at 60i (aka 30fps aka 29.97fps) - so there is no way to get a 'perfect' version. If you scroll through frame by frame, you can see some shots look full frame; others still have blending going on.
Still love the video; just guessing you gotta see it on a TV to get the best effect.
From what I know compositing is a total mess in 60i.
I like it. simple. good song. funky effect. played well with.
Hi - id like to shed some light on the effects production on this video.
This was this was custom software I developed in Jitter, a realtime multimedia programming environment - cycling74.com. All effects were manipulated in real time via some OpenGL programming on a circular buffer of 720P textures, outputted over DVI to a Kona 3 card and captured in realtime on Final Cut Pro. This was basically 'vj'ed in HD. Quite fun to do with a live camera input.
Daku - yes, it was shot in 720p24, but also effected in 720p. The deliverable was SD however, implying interlacing, so I think thats where the interlacing from the first upload was from. Id love to see a higher quality upload though, the effect is quite hypnotizing.
Thanks!
btw, who is the other jerk with the 'vade' handle. Dont make me pwn some n00bs here...
thats really cool information. even though it wasnt me asking - but thanx anyway. and a big compliment. I tryied live feedbacks from video-signal once with incredible results and very difficult to control. but this is a whole new dimension.
interesting and clever but there needs to be more than just technique sometimes.
