Calvin Harris "Merrymaking At My Place" Dir: Kinga Burza
Only a Poo-Tube for now folks...
cool song. is kinga sponsored by american apparel?
Saw Calvin Harris' Glastonbury set which rocked. I knew I was going to love this video the moment someone pulled a roast chicken out of the oven. A marriage of cool
surely it's the 'filmschool film-making' look to Kinga's videos that make them so great. her videos have soul and character. love this one too - although its not her best i agree.
I agree with skinner, this is lame. Deserved a better video. Afterall the song describes the narrative. What else has she done? Added a bunch of kids from hoxton wearing american apparell? That makes a good director does it? I do not think so! Played out style over a content
Who is skinner76? Or Dazed1? I find it way too ironic that new postees appear to say how bad a video is (note to sherlock: Why does this tend to happen more so for UK promos? Especially indy ones...) Did you guys lose the job to Kinga?
This is clearly a party video. Sure the hipsterness is a little heavy but there's not a single shot of pretention and Burza's work is swimming in hip hipness anyway.
i second that emotion motion, L81. sour losers... the song is pretty fresh, and K-burz made the 'party video' fresh also - lots of character and funky bits. i think the raw cinematography and old english nanna house vs new brit-hipster art direction was a good poke in the rib.
agree wi skinner - no point posting if you can't express an opinion...
felt like it could've ramped it up more - there's only so many times a bunch of achingly trendy people can walk from one room into another and throw things around and it still be interesting. and yeah the hoxton-rent-a-crowd was lazy. but loved the overall lo-fi; that art-school look was the point, and i've got to say, i dannay think the tune deserved better...
Yeah, loz I agree... anyone can express opinion ….but there is obvious difference with expressing opinion and bagging the vid because you lost to other director …it was pretty obvious with skinner and dazed posts this was the case …. when CH was asked why he was attracted to this director pitch he said "I'm always involved in choosing my videos. It was definitely the best one…." So here you are loz … next time do better pitch, than the tune surly will have “well deserved vid”….. :)
You video geeks need to chill out. You have a forum for music video yet no one is allowed to dislike a video? I unfortunately do not work in the promo industry, I just did not think that was a good video for that song. I am most sorry for having an opinion. Music videos can attract opinions from all walks of life, not just industry people like it appears all you paranoid regulars are. You need to be a little less sensitive to criticism.
It almost seems like this forum is run by production company employees so they can wank off about there own work. This forum should be for ALL not just people in the music industry, so stop all winging like little girls
I think the negative reaction a lot of these blatant coke-and-booze-Members-Only-American-Apparel videos get is partly due to the played out nature of the style and the attitude. It was fresh in 2000, but it certainly isn't fresh today. It's played.
Move on guys and girls. Or do you need to wait for someone else to make up your mind as to what's next?
And to the people referring to the local circle-jerk. You're right, but there is no avoiding it -- so you just have to get used to it.
I liked it. Not a fan of him saying "my house.....my house..... my house..... front door... my house.....daft punk....my house.." but that's about it.
I reckon after talking to a mate, that is was a lame brief, and there was budget constraints, but she probably did the best she could in those circumstances. Who knows?? Definently not blancs!
kinga mov - get it while it's there
lame no doubt about it. but more lame is as dazed1 said, the blatant and constant uk small-circle support of style over substance. what about.... creation!!!!
