Otherwise this is pretty damn amazing. Plastic bag people, humanoid drummer and glove ship were the standouts for me.

         

Very cool. Very Gondry. There's even a huge hand at the end, a staple in his music videos.

All of the gondry style, none of the gondry spark of genius. Fair play to him though — I'm sure he got paid.

Exactly. He was interesting for a little while, but now it's just predictable nonsense.

         

what happens when you become a caricature of yourself. sounds like it could be the plot for the next gondry movie?

         

I almost feel numb to gondry's amazing visual trickery these days. This is gondry doing gondry and getting paid wads of cash and thats a fair enough reason to make this. I'd be interested in seeing him do something more simplified. Nevertheless technically amazing and those plastic bag people were definately tasty.

         

Preferred the Boots commercial, which was the same, but more fresh (refuses to be found online!). This does have the stagnant whiff of rehash about it, alas.

         

It's beautifully detailed, but there have been a slew of moving sets ads this year so it does feel a little belated.

dougal's is better simply because it's more focused, more charming (the track!), and shorter. this one's... too like a phone: it tries to do too much.

         

where can i see dougal's? I am starting to really like that guy.
