Love will tear us apart Joy Division original BBC Recording Director/Editor Jonathan Beamish
Original performance footage by Joy Division A new video by Jonathan Beamish Earliest recorded version of the song produced as a John Peel Session for the BBC in 1979
hit a mood. care to explain (the footage)?
Thanks for comment. The original band footage is a mixture of a performance video shot by the band for the single release but riddled with production errors and live concert excerpts from Plank, Brussels and the Apollo, Manchester. This version of the song is the earliest recorded version and though less well known is highly regarded by fans. We needed to do some tricky retiming and editing to sync it up with the footage which s from completely different versions of the song. All the other layers and sequences were created using a mixture of newly shot material and stock footage. The six weeks of post involved a mixture of Final Cut, After Effects, Shake and Photoshop. The video is a homage released to coincide with the film Control but not in line with any single re-release -yet anyway.
