back to basics: videos of musicians.
a number of similar initiatives have popped up: plumTV's juan's basement series, bbc radio 1's black cab and npr/kut's retread sessions.
they're getting noticed. discuss.
love em love em love em!
i seriously think these are genius - totally opens up the music video in a way it hasn't been before, bringing in the element of live sound to play with as well, more spontaneity, etc. my personal favourite being beirut's 'Nantes' (www.youtube.com/watch?v=hq2s0AhdFE4) - for the sound quality on his voice alone (i spent a while searching for radio mikes on the other musicians & singer, if this is all one-mic sound, then it's daaaaamn good).
admittedly some of the others are more cheap than clever (not so enamored with the black cab sessions) but still injects a breath of fresh air, and nicely bigs up the more musical (ie. can actually play & sing) element within the beast we call 'the music industry'.
interested to see what comes next...
love the beirut flying club cup sessions, but was unable to find a place to buy the dvd. anyone have any luck?
