Both rock, but I do prefer this new one, which is more narrative-oriented.
i know this has been up for a while now, but I frick'n love this vid. perfect for this song.
yeah yeah i like this a lot. great performance - banging the table - choice!
Loz and I were talking about this one yesterday- in fact I've shown everyone I can.
I 'effing love this mr sully. I do have some small reservations (I'll get to them) but overall, this is the best performance vid I've seen for ages.
It really grabs you. Really defines the song. Really defines the band. I love the look (Sony EX1? please do tell!) and the pacing of the piece. The whole band give their utmost and it shows.
My reservation are only about the 'back and forth' edit trick. For me, I would have preferred a series of jump-cuts. Having said that it does work in a number of places- especially in the performance. I guess I don't like them when they're quite in your face. It does really work with the tipping-point chair moment though- I guess I don't like the drink pouring, the pool balls, the stepping back and forth and it nearly spoils the dancing a little.
HOWEVER.... that aside, this is a rocking video and deserves a lot of airplay. I far prefer the directors cut, despite the fact it makes more of my bugbear!
Raise your Tankards to Mr Sully!!
Thanks Dan! It was shot on the HDX900 by the talented Mr. Christopher Sabogal- who has just shot a heist scene vid with Michael Baldwin- can't wait to see that.
Regarding the edit- I wanted to mirror the interesting rhythm and structure of the song in how I cut it. All the back and forth stuff was supposed to mimic the rocking boom/clap percussion and the repeated shots were an attempt to capture the repeated elements in the song. I actually think I could have gone further and really shredded the scene up- that was the intention- but settled on the version above.
Cheers for your kind worths though dude!
