The Presets - "This boys in love" Dir. Casper Balslev
QT 36.3mb
that was so gay.
joking. Really artistic, if a bit repetitive. Kudos to the colorist, I think it works. Great song too.
GREAT! - love the colors and the dust and the glitter and the milk.
I agree with captainmarcs first statement... 'Gay' and not literally. I like the idea of half naked models wrestling in milk for no reason and there are some nice shots but overall this is just unoriginal eye candy that goes nowhere.
Might as well be an ad for mens cologne.
I like the song but its a shame this video isnt in the same league as the last two videos by Kris Moyes.
they stole Klaxons' homoerotica!
i like this a lot better than kris moyes' videos for the presets. good job
gay for pay. although not as gay as the 2008 SXSW Music Video Special Jury Award Winner - Temporarily in Love. off topic: which keeps me wondering how they could commend both this and the far superior Keigo Oyamada & Koichiro Tsujikawa's 'fit song'.
i think gay is the way they wanted it. that and it seems to be a subtle reference to the pet shop boys (opportunities and paninaro 95)
i don't get that "gay" thing.. i mean... the video has gay elemts in it. yes. For me its just like there is a "coca cola" in the video... and everybody say: hej... the video is so coca cola.
You comment something thats just in the video. David Bowie & Mick Jagger - Dancing In The Street is also "gay": www.youtube.com
where living in 2008.... and people say: this is a gay video.
Gongratulations. It's just stupid.
His New Orleans photo series is ridiculously good (IMO).
i think the gay comments are not, like the video, referring to sexual orientation rather that the video is not very good. Using the term gay is an obvious joke. It seems that there may be a few homophobes on this site that were offended by earlier comments. Hilarious!
I agree the new orleans photo series is very very good. However this video really does go nowhere and seems like a pastiche of early 90's styled, neutral colour pallet, 'serious' photography which should be left in the 90's or to backwards 'mens cologne' commercial directors.
I’m a little confused…is that the Presets?
It can’t be this video has depth of field!
This cant be a Presets video it doesn’t cry out “I have been storyboarded with one technique and one technique only in mind”. The editing (fancy that, editing!) gives me room to breath, room to form my own opinions, allows my eye to play across the frame, gives me…could it be…viewing pleasure?
The visuals seem to play across the music rather than being robotically in sync, what an unfamiliar feeling. The director seems to have confidence in the viewer; he seems to understand the word “subtext”. There seems to be be more than one idea at work here and yet there are the Presets smack in the middle of it all. I just don’t understand, is this some kind of tangential universe? Some sort of brave new world.?
Could it be that sibling competition has finally been overcome? Has enforced nepotism finally been conquered? Who knows where we can go from here……
Sounds like someone really doesnt like kris moyes? My main question is what 'subtext'? Hmmm let me see... milk and semi naked models. They wrestle for no given reason and then make friends in the end? So milk represents the suckling of the mothers teet and semi naked male models represents the fashion industry and the wrestling represents the brutal beauty of homosexuality or perhaps the milk represents the female and the two males are battling over her love but then they make friends in the end with the realisation that the milk isnt worth it and that they should probably just have sex with each other on a bed. So in addition to this the presets faces are black with ash which represents the 'apocolypse' or perhaps racial equality... oh and dont forget its in slow mo which represents the meaningless nature of time in relation to space and the love or hate of two boys.... oh oh and the presets vanishing in a cloud of smoke represents the magical quality of the directors original concept for this music video. But basically it all comes down to the fact that the song is about love but the male models are actually fighting. Wow! brilliant!
The wrestling ia based on an ancient Greek form of wrestling, and a traditional fight that took place. In the video one boy is nearly killed and then spared, the other boy helps him up, and he congragulates his opponent. The presets are singing from a dark purgatory like place about the pain of love.
in ancient Greek form of wrestling, did they play grab ass too?
^Most definitely.
Really spectacular watch.
it's quite a visceral vid. love the color, mood, edit & motion work.
takes a cue from saam, no?
love moyes' presets vids too! no need to hate!
yeah does remind me of saam but it seems saam is just the most well known director of a generation that have the same influences and aesthetic tastes. I wonder is there such a thing as movements in the music video world much like the art world or music world or film world?
