Pivot /// In The Blood /// Dir. Alex Smith
What is it with these making-a-virtue-of-the-unconcealed-puppeteer vids at the moment?
I think that this is quite cool (good narrative, nice twists, effects & edit) but can never quite ignore its cheapness, to its detriment.
excellent. funny, clever and original. how refreshing to see a video that does whatever it wants and just goes off the scale. well done. best vid in ages.
I think the unconcealed-puppeteer vids work when the puppeteer is just as interesting to watch as the puppet.
Plus, I feel like these vids have been around for a couple of years now... I'd link to Nagi Noda's She's My Man and Kris Moyes' Heart It Races if I could use the search function... sorry...
Noda Moyes (and there's also Nico Beyer for Pet Shop Boys)
I agree. Unfortunately in this vid they're rather prosaic bar the (puppet-free) phone cameo.
How did you use the search function?
typed names + "antville" into google
bravo. that was rad. The cheapness is what it is. I really enjoyed the phone part... perhaps more could have been done with the background... i know the point was to have it look like it was done in someones house... but i think "a black void" would have prob worked better than a brick wall with xmas lights hung up. Either way... you got the "feel" spot on and succeeded in making me want to watch the whole thing despite a kinda meh track. props alex smith.
GENIUS! (troph, stone & moon ftw.) this outswedes ol' michel himself. brilliant stuff, mr. (ms.?) smith! (lisa&frame: get out more :-)
Speaking of, anyone want a date for the eclectic mix screenings at the LA film festival? ;)
I LOVE this!
brilliant. is this THE alex smith, of black dog fame? anyhoo, i loved this too, daft but beautiful. i think a black void here woulda been a letdown, the sense of place is part of the appeal. bravo alex.
Guess by genus u mean making a stunnin' professional virtue of its unashamedly crappyness! I'm sure I can concur Delightfully stupid but brilliant! made me laff!
note: apparently this video was deemed to gory by the folks at myspace..... good lord.
Alex Smith on teh video, plus it's up at boards
not bad at all, but they shouldve edited out the puppeteers. theyre no fun.
