Converse - My drive thru (Dirs. Psyop)
Not a music-video!
Long-time market darling Converse pulled together N.E.R.D.'s Pharrell Williams, The Strokes' front man Julian Casablancas and commercialized Santogold for this Psyop-directed clip, in order to sell more shoes.
lame they faked it with psyop, instead of getting the real masters to do this.

Progosk, that was a nice video you linked to but they definitely used some effects in their production so what is your problem really? I'm sure if your "masters" had the budget to take it fully 3D they would have because their video is very flat at times. The Psyop spot has a superior range of motion.
erm... i don't think so.
Of course Psyop does it better. This analog hype is really stupid. Who cares how it's made. This video lacks a bit of humanity though. Something ala Koichiro Tsujikawa.
word
what are you guys talking about ? regardless of the quality of the converse video they ripped the concept, the look and entire bits so kudos to progosk for pointing it out.
Really great work. One of my favorites this month.
i like it too. i want a MOV. ;)
They didn't rip the concept from progosk's video. Stop motion via still cameras has been done 1,000 times before that, particularly ones where the pictures are hand cut. Get real spl33nidoru. The point of the matter is that in this day and age something is no less "valid" just because computers are used. Computers are a tool just like anything else and I reiterate my point: the trench-coat video has very amateur effects in it, I think if they had the means and the knowhow they probably would have taken it further. Stupid discussion really. All art references something before it. The idea is to add to the discussion which this video does by upping the ante. Any other stop-motion-hand-cut video with have to position itself somewhere in this discussion.
thanks for the advice Militia. i personally don't care how it's done or how long it took. what i care about is not taking another video as a starting point (look + composition + flow) when i start working on something or looking for ideas.
the Converse video is great but after watching the trenchcoat one it lost a lot of its appeal for me. the end.
vidmil: far be it from me to accuse psyop - they did what they were asked to do with their usual flair. my gripe is at the lamery of converse, or whomever on their behalf. if they'd dared to commission this to an unknown (but genial - i think you're quite wrong about their intentions) european handcrafter, instead of the usual high-end n.y. post shop, i reckon they might've gathered some extra cred, while wowing their putative audience just the same (if not more).
Prog, was the video that you're referring to really that high profile? The band is a no-name, and the animators are obscure as well. It seems like there are tons of references that Psyop could have drawn from that have a similar style. Also, the entire converse ad campaign, (which has been around for months) is based on the "paper dolls" look. I highly doubt that any theft was involved here.
if it weren't an ad, i could like that a lot.
why don't more random musicians get together and make songs, eh?
and not sure about rip or no rip, but really... would anybody be surprised? it wouldn't be the first time and it won't be the last. sony bravia etc.
cpluv figures out
it's not stop motion it's CG read an interview with the Psyop directors here www.glossyinc.com
