newsflash: Michel Gondry to direct "The Green Hornet"
oohhh. seems to good to be true, believe it when it comes out (where the wild things... jonze... anyone?). but yes, gondry + seth rogen = match made in heaven in my books.
For the record, the green hornet was one of the first project Gondry was trying to get into when he came to hollywood, but it was canceled and he did "human nature".
Didnt think this link deserved its own post but it will fit nicel within this one:
its an article about mv directors going to the big screen.
ai - wasn't f. nemeta even attached to the project at some point?
I may be in my own corner as far as this site in concerned, but I am still not convinced this guy can make a movie.
Eternal sunshine was a great script. Every other movie he's made is (dare I say it!) unwatchable.
sunshine wasn't only a great script - it was a great movie.
and great direction. but i kinda agree with lusk re: the rest of gondry's features - especially the one with the vhs tapes
mega lol - 'Alejandro Jodorowsky’s ‘King Shot’ The mad ‘El Topo’ director joins with producer David Lynch to make this metaphysical gangster film. Expect plenty of mystic symbolism.
I sincerely DID NOT like "sunshine". Thought it was overloaded & felt like what worked as music video, did not make for compelling storytelling.
Thought "science" was a little more balanced & enjoyed it.
Have not bothered with "rewind" as it just sounded too schticky to begin with.
As for this,...zzz.
Really tired of the redux.
Yeah I am a big Gondry fan but I think he hasn't outdone Eternal Sunshine. His episode of Flight of the Conchords was abysmal too.
This sounds good though but like loz said
"believe it when it comes out (where the wild things... jonze... anyone?)."
I felt the complete opposite of hipgnosist. Science of Sleep felt like a showcase of Gondry's music video ideas within a fairly flimsy pretext, whereas the story and characters took precedence in Sunshine. Rewind really just seemed to continue the slide...
Hopefully Green Hornet will represent a return to a strong narrative center for his films.
hope this doesn't mean we're going to see a by the numbers hero movie:
According to an MTV interview with Rogen, the Apatow protégé went out of his way to recruit the filmmaker, to the point of sending him a copy of the script without Sony's permission. Though he wanted Gondry for his unique vision and enthusiasm for the source material — the director had previously tried to make a Hornet movie in the late nineties — Rogen insists that the film will drop the low-budget quirks of the director's recent material. In fact, upon reading the script, Gondry shot a fight scene on his own dime to prove that he could present a believable action sequence not involving construction paper, sparkles, or papier-mâché dummies. "[I said] 'You have to convince them they're not gonna show up on set one day and everything is gonna be made out of cardboard,'" Rogen says. "And he said, 'I can definitely do that.'"
A few years ago no one would have believed that Jon Favreau was the right director for Iron Man. Sounds promising to me.
I just remebered this spot. www.youtube.com Keep in mind this was 1997, pre-Matrix.
wow... had totally forgotten that ad, and how much i loved it at the time (never realised it was gondry before)... so many nice touches.
Science of Sleep is not bad, and I actually never really understood why Be Kind Rewind got shit on so badly, I liked both movies well enough, were they as good as Eternal Sunshine? no and i think that's what everyone was expecting. His Conchords episode was the best one yet. Also no ones really brought up his first "Human Nature" which I enjoyed as a bizzare screwball comedy.
Lol @ the MTV Interview
"You have to convince them they're not gonna show up on set one day and everything is gonna be made out of cardboard"
Gondry Interview @ the Guardian;
