PJ Harvey and John Parish - "Black Hearted Love“ (DIR. D&J Chapman)
You Tube. Directed by Jake and Dinos Chapman.
Rather disappointing. Needs a through editorial revision for a start. Shows that 'excelling' (read celebrity) in one corner of media doesn't necessarily travel.
that's who LTROI's eli kept reminding me of - polly jean's a vampire! (this has its moments.)
Jake Chapman talks to the Guardian: "Making a pop video is obviously different to making art."
... also some shoot pics.
Wow, what a scary read. They filmed a girl jumping in an inflatable funhouse, but their op/ed piece makes it sound like they were behind the genome project. Talk about blowhards. Related questions: Why is the Guardian asking the directors of a PJ Harvey video for their opinion on anything anyway? Is she that big a deal over there? Are these two genius brothers somehow notable?
not into con-temporary-cept art, are you The Peth "Let's Go Fucking Mental" (dir. Jake Chapman) flv
I think we've been super, super clever.
Ugh. These guys have obviously missed the death of irony, post-irony, double-negative irony and Richard Curtis non-irony. Basically they've seen a Dougal Wilson video and stuck an inflatable in it. Which, rather like abusing Goya, leaves a sour taste.
i like the video very much, i find it eerie in a good sense, in a contemporary gothic way. and i like the chapman's bros, because i'm a snob who likes contemporary art. and what they did to goya's works was funny in an admittedly offensive way (yeah, i think it were better if they didn't vandalized the original works but some copies instead). not very different from duchamp when he decided to fuck abaht with mona lisa. but it's just self-indulging children's play - you find it funny - or not - and forget about it. it's consumption art served in bits and pieces.
i find it equally offensive when some mv directors decide to 'reference' (read rip off shamelessly) some cult films and even mo offensive when some poo butt ass bands like fleet foxes slap some fonts onto bruegel so that CR decide it's the album cover of the year.
