John ME - Run. Director: Wreck Creative Studios
Promo for Sony BMG artist John ME. Directed by Wreck Creative Studios
wow that was lame.
The SONG was lame, and it would have done well to have a different actor than the singer. But the design, execution, and effects were all great.
I'm sorry but the design and concept were obvious and idiotic. Effects and execution overall were good but in no way do those things make a good video.
This really is impressive. It's held back by a really unenthusiastic performance by the singer, but its otherwise really solid and has some cool ideas.
Fuck off Kansas. Visually this is a tier above it's peers and yet you can't wait to be the first person to say "lame." Next time just pass on by.
These guys kick ass! :) Be sure to check out the epic Turbonegro video on their site as well. I also love the gory cat cartoon.
Just because it looks professional doesn't mean it's a good video. The same things could be said about the last few videos from someone like Britney Spears.
Good to see the osx screensaver makes a cameo appearance.
Don't think anyone is arguing that point, though...
Besides - who doesn't like Tron?
I don't know, some of that looked cool.
I thought that was very, very nicely shot. The song was cretinously derivative, though.
Fuck you otc... I usually do pass on by because so many videos recently have been average to say the least. What's even worse is to view the 90% of the self masturbatory comments that get posted here. Same old argument really... Just because things look professional or slick does not make them a good video or feature film or TVC. If you can't see that for all the wool over your eyes then I feel sorry for you.
I don't know why I bothered commenting. Maybe its because I occasionally get tired of wading through the contented moronic stupor of the masses.
PS I will take your advice and go back to just passing on by. At least then I can pretend that people like you don't exist.
Is it just me or does every single person who comments on this site imagine themselves as the lone voice of reason in a desert of conformist stupidity?
"I don't know why I bothered commenting. Maybe its because I occasionally get tired of wading through the contented moronic stupor of the masses. "
Hilarious.
@budget: Is it just me or do people like you imagine themselves as the voice of reason in a desert of stupidity????
Hilarious.
There is no way I am the lone voice of reason. I am quite sure many people agree with me. Whether or not they choose to comment here is another question. Certainly one reason not to comment is due to people like 'otc' who's egos are injured when they can't comprehend some body not being impressed by something that impresses them.
"otc, 17. April 2009, 03:28 Fuck off Kansas. Visually this is a tier above it's peers and yet you can't wait to be the first person to say "lame." Next time just pass on by."
The obvious question here: Is it really that strange for people to have different conceptual / aesthetic ideals?
For example: In this instance I'd compare the difference to walking down the street with someone who suddenly jumps back in excitement and says: "Wow! do you see that garbage bin, people are putting garbage in it! What a 'cool' idea! What an amazing design! How did they come up with that!"
I pray that Kansas is either an easily agitated foreign exchange student who's still trying to get a handle on appropriate tone or an actual super villain typing his comments from the depths of his secret volcano lair, because no one else writes like that.
We're talking about comments on a website about music videos-those cute 3 minute promos that are commissioned by record labels to get teenagers excited about pop music. Why do so many people on this site end up arguing about their merits in the same tone that Galactus uses to threaten small planets? Crack a window and release the vice-like grip on your mouse. Use your energy to write a manifesto on civil liberties and stop wasting your time ranting about visual effects on a music video that no one will ever see.
You pretend like this video had loads of gushing accolades before you decided to shit on it. If you want to talk self masturbatory comments think about patting yourself on the back for your ability to stay ahead of some sort of imaginary music video taste curve. Maybe next time you're about to show off your ability to not be impressed by a video with no comments you'll notice the poster's name and helpful production company links and put it together that you're being an asshole.
yeah you guys got me. I am going to retreat to my volcano cave in defeat. Once again the world of the music video is safe for budding directors to frolic naked through the garden of eden.
Yay!
um... that was a joke budget. I am actually a foreign exchange student. Two things. Obvious really.

If music videos are just cute little 3 min promo's made for naive teenagers then why are you watching them? In fact why is anyone on this site watching them?

What trend? What are you talking about otc? This seems like another statement based on your own short comings. I am talking about basic principles not trends. This video does not impress me because it's an obvious and re-used concept. Maybe budget is right on this occasion, ie this could possibly be written by 13 year olds for 13 year olds. If this is the case than congratulations to the directors, I am sure they will offer up some interesting work after puberty. Otherwise there is nothing new or inventive about the style or production techniques here, which when coupled with a 'lame' concept makes for a boring video.
seriously kansas. let it go. we know you dont like this video, move along.
fuck you chris.
Kansas ^^^
Got it in one familiar. Although I am actually female. Maybe you could replace the photo with a feminine equivalent?
odd that this particular video riled you so kansas. whatevs - axes are not my niche.
Wasn't really the video progosk. It's neither good nor bad just averagely lame. It was the idiotic defense of it and the personal reaction to my negative critique that ruffled a few feathers. But your right... whatever... I have no axe to grind.
nothing like monday morning for a flame war...
(Sighs) This thread should of died a while ago but I'll offer one final comment. What initially pissed me off is that this is a thread posted by one of the creators of the video (in this case one of the animators). Of course they didn't tell you this explicitly but it's usually pretty obvious when someone (bravely) posts under their real name and provides a link to the production credits, that they're involved somehow. And so when you say "Wow, lame" without any qualifications as the first comment on the thread you basically saying it directly to the face of the creator (because why else would they be posting it here if they weren't going to read the feedback). And the truly amazing thing is that even though you have no reservations about saying this to someone who directly worked on the video you get extremely defensive when someone says anything about you. If you're going to play the card that poster's need thick skin then you should have thick skin as well. Now I'm not saying that creators who post here should be immune to criticism but if your aversion to a video is simply mild and you know that the creator is going to be reading it, why bother saying anything at all?
Now I don't think this is a "great" video but I do think it's a good video that delivered a hell of a lot more than it had to considering the song and likely budget, and I do think that everyone involved should be able to feel proud of their work. - That's it for me.
I agree with otc. This is most likely a video with a small budget that a bunch of young ambitious filmmakers poured their blood and sweat into. It seems like an odd target.
'odd target'? What is a good target?
This would have been useful here:
