Kid Cudi "Make Her Say" feat Kanye West & Common : Dir. Nez
Can't believe they made a video for this song, guess Kid Cudi didn't have a real single to pomote. Nice video though, the split screen works surprisingly well. Good edit, good cinematography.
Yeah, this is incredibly well shot. I enjoy the consistent color pallette as well.
Nice color palate, but the edit is frustrating.
very stylish.
Loved it! Agreed; the cinematography was stunning, as was the production design. Personally I really enjoyed the edit. Would love to know the director.
Too bad about the lyrics
Director: Nez
Way to go Nez!
najork - what's wrong with being sexy?
Everything else is cool, but the lyrics are just kinda middle-of-the- road skeezy to me. Too boring to be sexy.
Breakthrough rap video, for sure. Applauds all around. Nice how Nez avoids going for the obvious close up sell and stays true to the vistas.
I think it's ok. Watch it again? no.
Nez? good. Last Kanye vid? bad. Balloons? nice.
Editing? not good.
The video lacks energy in every possible way. Maybe too many wide shots?
I think covering most of the video in wide shots is what sells it for me. The setups look like beautifully composed still photos that just happen to have a tiny bit of motion in them.
The track isn't really a club banger so it doesn't need to be super energetic.
I also love how this plays as an entrance for Cudi into the mainstream music world. He completely avoids any hip hop cliches setting himself up as a different kind of artist (I mean this could easily be a Lily Allen video or something) As opposed to how Drake did it with his first real video.
using split screen provides an opportunity for symmetry, contrast, and commentary between the different frames.
this video RARELY did any of these.
The shot of the pool reflection is an example of where it did.
I liked the cinematography and production design, but thought the edit, specifically use of split screen added nothing to the video.
@ Lukeasa I think Split screen provides the oportunity to split the screen into two screens....
It does just that. I would have hated if the split was filed with cheesy "good vs bad" or "light vs dark" or anything that a split screen usually does....
I think its a great video... simple but well done. I say kanye purposefully sabotaged the Drake vid so his artist could shine... deviant! haha.
Awesome, love this, Well done Nez. You wouldn't have got a hip hop video like this few years ago.
