The Fray "Heartless" (Dir: HIRO MURAI)
Perfect fit for the song. I wish the story had taken a turn in the 3rd act, though.

Better quality, more aspect correct vimeo link:
The FRAY - Heartless from IE HAGY on Vimeo.
pitch perfect. well done chaps.
Really great! Wish there was an HD version. I want my notebook doodling to come to life!
the concept is kinda close to this video:
Cafe Tacuba - Eres
Cargado por psyque. - Videos de música, entrevistas a los artistas, conciertos y más.
better link and credits for Café Tacuba "Eres" Director / Guión: Rogelio Sikander Casa productora / Casa postproductora: The Maestros Productor: Rodrigo Valdes Fotografía: Gerardo Madrazo Edición: Pablo Piriz Diseño de dibujos: Daniel Guzmán Postproducción / Efectos en computadora / Animación / Colorista: Erwin Jaquez @ The Maestros
woah. that's some SERIOUS biting.
sigh.
first off, "drawings that come to life" is a concept that has been done a million times. Anyone see "Better off Dead" from 1985?? Or A-ha's "Take on Me" ?? It can still be cool, though; as there are a lot of different directions to go in.
Second off - can you really assume that the director saw a spanish language music video from god knows when?
So, you can say "it's unfortunate that the ideas are so similar" or "wow, what a coincidence" - but I would never say that was BITING.
man... seriously. watch again the two videos and stop trying to convince yourself or other people that it was just a "coincidence".
Directors tend to have a pattern, those who 'emulate' others tend to do so constantly. Look at his body of work, there is obviously strong reference he pulls (cunningham, etc) , but to reduce the amount of work put into this as just "biting" is just rude. Well executed and thoroughly enjoyable. I couldn't even get through the spanish video...
yes atamop.. FREAKY FREAKY coincidence.. but Hiro would never bite a video in that was, nor would any director i personally call a good director... which Hiro is.., as azer stated look at his body of work... and atamop, can u post a couple of your videos so we can check them out.. would love to see them.
i don't get anywhere close to the talent hiro has. that's why seeing a director i admire so much borrowing someone else's work that heavily was kind of a let down.. anyway, technically and stylistically video is great, nothing to say.
The video is cool. But pulling the "oh well let me see your videos" card cause someone has a negative comment is lame.
well i dont find it a negative comment in regards to constructive criticism, which i feel this website was built for. Well at least in my eyes... it was more of post stating that he is damn sure Hiro bit this latin video, which then i objected too. And i agree, i am sure Hiro prob has more talent.. and i am sorry.. why is it wrong to ask to see someone's video?? are you serious? i might love them and become a new fan? or i might write a comment about his video on antville, soomethng to the degree of "man... seriously. watch again the two videos and stop trying to convince yourself or other people that it was just a "coincidence"... you know in case he is a biter.. you never know.. but again.. i would love to see his videos, and your's also macguffin... i love seeing other directors works... it is part of growing as a director..
The director is "biting"? How about the fact these guys are remaking a Kanye West song?! I mean, I'm not mad at it, but if you want to get into the whole "unoriginal" argument, I'd say what the director did with the old-as-the-hills idea of drawings come to life is far more impressive than what the band did with the song.
Also - "putting your money where your mouth is" when it comes to criticizing others' work is fine by me. I don't think it's off limits to call somebody out if they're ripping something to shreds.
Sure everybody is entitled to their opinion, but I think some opinions are worth more than others. I definitely want to know what people think of the stuff I make, but I'm not gonna be terribly crushed if Johnny from Alabama, who's never shot a thing in his life, thinks it "sucks". (I care more about the majority of Joe Public's take)
However, if a dude on this site writes negatively on something I directed, and he's got the link to his stuff flying proudly, I'll respect him a bit more for at least having the balls to put a face to the comment. (Better be good though or I'm coming at ya!)
WELL SAID MR GOOSE!!!
BTW, forgot to mention this earlier...
I noticed one of the few active links on this board and clicked on it...

Cool stuff! I like the Atmosphere video! The oldie has crazy eyes!
@videoz stop trying to play the nice guy now. it's obvious how you were coming off in your intial comment.
@Nicky Goose If that's the case wouldn't you want to see the videos made by people who praise your work too. I mean it could be Johnny from Alabama who thinks your latest work "rocks". And what does his opinion count?
@macguffin - confused by your question a little bit. Sorry.
Mostly I just wanted to point out that with all the "rip off" talk nobody mentioned that the whole damn thing was based on a "rip off".
As far as Johnny Alabama goes -- I love the dude!
@macguffin .. far from the nice guy now... people say i'm a dick usually , so thanks for making me the nice guy.. regardless.. go make a video.. stop whining!
love the kayne cameo.
