Grizzly Bear - Two Weeks, Dir. Gabe Askew
WOW! really awwsomenessness... gives u that special feeling... the cuddly one
Clearly a labour of love. Nice work. :) -j
why do people make fan videos for songs that already have videos? If this was any other track on the album, it had a real shot of turning into the official video. Or at least tricking others into thinking it was official.
Because they want to get hired. Based on this someone deserves a job at psyop.
that is so good
Yo Patrick Daughters, you gonna let this nerd play you like this?
otc, but if he made this video for any other Grizzly bear song on the album - and the band saw it, and liked it, they might make it the official video. This just happened w/ that Death Cab Softlighties-esque clip.
As is, any EP or commissioner who sees this on a reel will know it's just a spec; as everyone saw the official Patrick Daughters clip.
And there's nothing wrong with a spec video - but it's way less impressive than some new director landing an official video for a beloved band.
i disagree, cap: i think this is notable precisely because a great official vid already exists, and this holds up nonetheless. much more sincere way to showcase his talent.
oh, and: two weeks, v1, v2, v2½, v3, v4, v5, v5½...
Yeah Cap, if you do the one Grizzly Bear song that people know and like you get way more press than doing some album cut. Also, I think you'd be surprised at how many EP's or Commissioners even know off the top of their heads who directed the first GB video and what the song was- most antvillers are better at keeping track of that stuff than the people who are busy protecting the bottom line.
crazy work, I mean how many unemployed self-skilled desktop-wizzards are out there?
yeah CAP... i dont think anyone was trying to trick anyone broski... RELLLLAXX... it is creative and for a song.. save ur negative vibes for a shit video cover..
Negative vibes? When did I say anything negative about the video? I'm talking about strategy for people who are launching a music video career - and I think there is an audience for that discussion on this site.
Spec videos are great projects for film students and aspiring filmmakers.
But directing a real video for a band that will be promoted by their label - that's impressive.
And budget: I'm pretty sure every commissioner and EP is familiar with the work of Patrick Daughters.
Wow. Much more compelling than the official video. Great rendering quality; skillfully lit, and edited.
Cap, you'd be surprised...
Both fan made videos posted on Antville are better than the official version. Not sure if that means anything for the future of music videos or not...

What! I couldn't even watch all the way through this. This isn't even in the same league as the Patrick Daughters video. Very boring! What worries me about the future of music videos is that people on this site rate a video like this over the Patrick Daughters video. If some record label twat is reading this site they will instantly think 'well I can just get some hungry art school kid to make the next grizzly bear video for free, don't need to to pay people like Patrick Daughters anymore. No need to provide a budget anymore.'
"You guys have fucked up the game."
i don't care which video is necessarily better. i'm just always astounded by how much talent is out there. it's both inspiring and daunting at the same time. and kansas, don't worry. there will always be budgets.
this is a good piece and deserves to be recognized.
Fantastic. Very well done.
Fair enough Kansas. I'll amend my position - I like both fan made videos more than I like the Patrick Daughters version. But not by much. And, lets keep in mind that the first unofficial version uses footage from another work and this second unofficial does kinda drag on a bit but its pretty marvelous all the same.
Also, the fact that the Daughters version doesn't do much for me doesn't take away from the man's incredible body of work (The video for Depeche's 'Wrong' has really grown on me).
And, a commissioner grabbing a hungry art student gets to use them once for free, the second time for cheap, and then suddenly they're up to cost cause now they're in demand.
Cost ain't what it used to be but it's still a touch better than free.

um, the whole "hungry art students are going to steal our jobs" thing is completely unrealistic.
Moving on...
jesus... this is ace!!! I personally prefer the daughters version but this really is great too.
I think its difficult to commission videos like this anyway because most commissioned videos need to be delievered two weeks after the video gets signed off.....
although the daughters one was apparently over budget and two months late so that kind of ruins my point, but...
for some reason this brings me back good memories of playing Mario 64
amazing animation...but like others have said, why not make it for a different song?
or a hot new unsigned band that doesn't have $$$?
