The Hickey Underworld - Blonde Fire (dir: Joe Vanhoutteghem)
Parental Advisory - Explicit Content
this is just dark dark and darker, it unfolds really well
so good
indeed.
wow wow fucking wow. that was so fucking awesome. best i've seen in a while.
great googly moogly!
got a surprised laugh from me. ending felt rushed though, but i like it
does anybody know if he has directed any other mv? also if you are interested, commercial work
it's his first. (for ads, he previously paired up with Koen Mortier as the notorious Lionel Goldstein.)
For the first few seconds I thought this was going to be just another shambolic indie vid, and it would probably sound like one on paper, but this is way skilled. Impactful.
fuuuuuck. that was great
bohhh-rrrinnng.
kidding, that fucking kicked ass.
nothing interesting to add here except another strong "FUCK YEAH!!"
YES! GREAT!
Agree with all of the above
very similar to duane hanson's work methods.
rimshot
really dope. i agree the ending didn't have time to breath, but a small qualm.
Wow.
Love it, so f-king Amazing! been a fan of Lionel Goldstein since the ear ping pong days, great to see how the solo work here has such a different flavour, but is just as genius :)
found this on the DP's blog: Picture: Arricam LT 35mm - FUJI 400 Eterna (under exposed by 2 stops) - Arri Master Primes (Jan Rubens full lens set) - T1.3 - 1/60 - 25fps and 75fps and then i also found out it was a 3 week shoot! I still love the video but 3 week shoot on 35mm is definitely far from the mv limitations we work w/in.
THREE WEEKS???!!!! How is that even possible? Cool idea though, and that lead guy is freaky.
I'm guessing there were some art grants involved. Also, yeah this is great.
I do not like it.
I think it's safe to say that all of antville's favorite videos from this year have been exceptions, production-wise.
This was a 3 day shoot. Budget €7500.
Perfect acting from The Maker, great atmosphere. Kudos. The weak part for me is the track, but that's subjective. I'm sure this one will sweep with every award at the 2010 MTV VMA :P
This is inspiring. Left me with a sense of wonder and intrigue. The ending could have unfurled a little slower and then the last shot with just sound design after song ends. Maybe also a silhouette of the man as it starts to burn? Either way it's overall great though.
Ace.
Awesome work!
agreed that the ending felt a little rushed. Some truly disturbing moments in there.
Reminded me of Ex Drummer - Koen Mortier (2007 Belgium)
Track is not weak. Track is also great.
Produced by Das Pop, by the way.
great. nothing wrong with the ending either.
3 week shoot on 35mm!
WTF!, Usually one would be lucky to get three weeks from handing in a treatment until when the video is completed.
Regardless I am with Legion on this. For some reason I just don't like it. It's well made and realized but the idea and aesthetic seems somewhat forced or pretentious.
since people love it so much, lets refresh their memory
Again, i just want to state that this was not a 3 week shoot!!!! This was a 3 day shoot. Budget €7500.
Well that makes more sense. However I still think a 3 day shoot is excessive for this. Whatever... it doesn't matter how long it took to shoot or what the budget was it still doesn't do it for me and to set the record straight what they have done with 7.5k is commendable but not at all unusual in these times.
