Interesting. I've been wondering when the overabundant porn imagery and aesthetic would be effectively used in experimental, 'mainstream' works; this one has enough graphic footage that it bans it from open channels but not enough to be a breakthrough. Any info on the performer, who I assume is some 70s porn actress?
disappointing? you were expecting what, exactly?
It's good, could use a cut towards the end in it gets preachy.
That's Georgina Spelvin. Harry Reems is the one inserting misc object somewhere...
Personally I like the idea of taking an old film and giving it context, it's good without the tragic crap at the end. This and the Rammstein video are capping off nudity in 2009, guesses.
It's sorta similar to what Jonas did in intent for that Metallica song:
dir. Toby Dye porn in MV: a read
M2C: I enjoy the provocateur aspect & even the crass,so tacky it's good vibe but there are limits.
The Rammstien video was too far for me. Anti-climactic if you will. It's just that you knew where it was going to go.
This is the difference between gore & terror. One does not insure the other. It's all about the delivery & execution. I've enjoyed the Warehiem stuff too, but must admit it does seem more like the logical extension than the break through.
As for this, I too enjoy the reworking of film in general to place it in a new context. Seeing as how there is such an abundance of contemporary status quo that fails to dazzle with any permanence, why not re-contextualize obscure cinema that many have never scene by many. It serves the dual purpose of new back drop & exposure to works long over due for re-examination. In many cases this is preferable to me & believe shows more respect for the auteur than most "homage".
OK 5 & 1/2... :)
disappointing after that 8-mil little gem that 'splitting the atom' was. disappointed witht the production, if you must, although i dig the idea of seeing the likes of marylin chambers or sylvia kristell brought into a new - more humane - context. besides, i was expecting something new and fresh, not reworked old footage. and even a long standing massive attack fan such as me prefers this:
bomb the bass - so special from johnny rome on Vimeo.
@legion: ^ that's a good video. I never saw till now.
This was their old video that was very well done...with nudity.
yeah, see, back in time they weren't lazy like this. im saying it again, i love the concept in this one - a now retired porn actress talking to camera about the devil in her, all inuendos in the world intended - but this video felt like l clark's 'impaled' segment, with music
ps: however, i like the edit towards the end, when they climax etc
Just downloaded this on torrent...must admit I really really rather liked it. Was that just footage from the original porn movie or did they shoot new stuff? I doubt some of those snake shots where in the original.
Does anyone know where I can watch the full version of this? Checked the massive attack site but can't find it there.
It's here - stereogum.com - it rocks
Interesting.
The element I particularly liked was that after decades of music videos selling sex with out ever actually putting out this just cuts to the chase and shows us the business - then flips it on its head and tells us its all just more smoke and mirrors.
