Still Life Still - Kid (dir. Scott Cudmore)

Quite cool and very atmospheric. It feels like a pleasing homage to Van Sant's 'Elephant'. Loved the casting too; the faces are excellent.
Couple questions if you don't mind:
- Is this Red?
- How come Still Life Still was willing to appear so little in the video? Did they tell you this was what they wanted from the get go?
- The narrative has no hard conclusion - we never get to discover the 'why' of it all. Is there a 'why' that can be discerned from the video or do you feel that the 'why' isn't important?
- Lots of actual atmosphere in the video - was this a fog/smoke machine?
Thanks, Kal. 'Preciate it. Elephant was definitely a major reference.
- No, it's the 7D. First time I've used it. Never liked RED. Love 7D.
- They actually thought they weren't going to be in it at all! Their first video is all performance and I think they wanted something different for this track.
- There's no literal 'Why' for me...the whole thing is more of a nightmare vision of youth, the world of adults, authority and peers...or an expression of what it can feel like in high school, to be alienated and outside. I thought of it more as a dream and the feeling it conveys and not as a literal story.
- Yup. We used a hazer is almost every single shot.
..great job! Who here didn't hate high school at least at some point...? :) Looks great as well, the day I'm buying the 7d is getting closer and closer...
two killers in a row.

Again,
very nice work. I've been a fan and I continue to be one. I actually shot my first 7D video about 2.5 weeks ago now. The client loves the first edit and so far things are going very well. It's an unbelievable tool for the price.
I still prefer Red but given the wretched place budgets are in right now I think I may be seeing a lot more of my new Canon friend. And, really, that's not that bad a thing...
Thanks,
K
that was really on point! makes me want a 7d really bad.
scott is there a reson you made the final 640 x 480? does that smaller frame size fit the aesthetic better for you. what did u use to color the video. I love the way you show the band in the end, thru the door.
great stuff man.
I suppose its not just the camera. but the light, fog, framing, locations, casting. even though it seems that canon makes a good look possible without spending too much on the camera etc. good job for sure
& not to derail yet another thread to 5d/7d/Red jibber/jabber, but Canon's 'bout to make that entry-level a grand cheaper (allegedly): prolost.com / www.dpreview.com
