I thought this was great, plus I love the amount of bitter whingers on vimeo. Come on, when you watch something for long enough it you do think of it from a different perspective. Better than a warhol video. The only problems are the giggling at the start, the girl on the left's make-up (her neck's a different colour) and the ending; they should have just cut it straight before they finish.

spl33nidoru, I disagree, 'YAMH' comes off as too stylised and faceless, the fact that it's in cropped close up gives it more of a link to the idea of pornography; it lacks the simplicity and innocence of the CUC video and also the soundtrack's awful and makes the imagery even more crass.

I guess by "better execution" you just mean more expensive.

         

no by better execution I mean that it aimed for "ultimate kiss video" and not for "2 topless girls kissing video".

obviously that requires some thoughts on the visual approach and I doubt money is relevant in this particular case.

it's funny how to me the CUC video is the closest one to pornography (and i don't mind pornography), it has this amateur vibe going on with both girls sorta anticipating the kiss (bonus points on the frat boy scale, i can already hear them bark), you say close ups = porn i say faces = porn (need for identification/fantasy) when the Demon video focuses on the feel and i think brings back the viewer to his/her own experiences.

as for the track, i also like Demon's better, ha! call it nostalgia. to each his own heh ?

Generally I find that lack of faces = porn because of the objectification of the subjects; they're no longer people but body parts. I still prefer the CUC vid as it becomes of like a warholian examination of the banal, there's no real pretensions or style; I don't think they were aiming to make the 'ultimate kiss video'. In truth, the idea's just a cynical ploy to get more views, but I do like it (and the fact that it's so long).

Maybe I just find the look of 'YAMH' dated and the kissing's too consciously 'sensual'.

But yeah, to each their own.

nice analysis i was thinking - im a south park fan - that they could do the same with representing / portraying mohamed; they could only show him from waist below and spare themselves the muslim anger; like the actress said - for girls to make it into porn all they need is a lube and smile. as for boys, how often do you get to see their faces ?

         

A little disappointed at the Antville crowd. Once again reading too much into what is essentially just two girls kissing without much else. You've been had, there's lots better work out there demanding your attention.

@Lomografx, I don't think it's fair to be disappointed with the ville crowd, if you read the comments, I think it's only myself that really wasted words and thoughts on the video, but then I also maintained that "the idea's just a cynical ploy to get more views".

There is far better work out there, but surely music video's that are popular rather than great are worth having a discourse about.

It's this type of one-idea gimmick that's running music video/viral promotion at the moment so it's not worth ignoring them and pretending that someone talented like Andreas Nilsson is running the scene.

         

who doesn't love two women passionately kissing but this sure is lazy film making- how about having some balls and showing two guys kissing for 4 minutes- or having the girls slowly transform into guys? I think that would of showed some originality. I also do not think that the song, (which I like), fits the video at all.

         

Well that's a good point. Virals do sorta run on a one note joke. Often it's at the hands of the talent that makes it work. This video is so so.
