Kanye West "Power" : Dir. Marco Brambilla
erm, that it? (lusk, is brambilla the pop-hack pseudo-greenaway he seems to have become?)
He's the director of Demolition Man!!
fatty kanye
blue balls.
Lame!
Prog: No, dude's actually a talented guy. Where does the hate come from - haha? For whatever it's worth, this is a highly welcome'd video imo. The MV form is getting very stale and this is a great move by a very visible, very pop artist. No?
just a vibe from seeing pics of his aftereffects orgies. so, surely what you've posted here isn't the entire piece, and/or it's meant to be consumed differently (other hotel lounge? ipad app?), right? were you involved in editing the main piece too?
This is the full piece. Was not involved editorially. Mostly a flame job (as you can tell).
that necklace he's wearing supposedly cost 300k. it looks like costume jewelry.
I really like what this is going for, and it has a great structure to it, I'm just surprised the FX are as rough around the edges as they are, considering its pretty much all FX.
"Power is the first video to be released as part of Brambilla's wider commission to create an album-length film for the Good Ass Job album. The film will use Kanye's music as the narrative driving force behind a highly stylized operatic odyssey." (full press release)
Brambilla's two other music videos, both from 1991 (before he became an "artist"): C+C Music Factory "Just a Touch of Love (Everyday)" Victoria Wilson-James "Through"

"only a persian would think this is cool"
they're not doing the whole song?
I can't really say anything about this video. It passes many levels of pretentiousness, but it's so beautiful to watch and fits well with the song. My main problem is that they didnt do the whole song.
*Broadcast version 10x better than the Uncensored version
Yes broadcast version is better, but no T&A id like to see an Uncensored Broadcast version
I liked this. :)
I've been fishing for the clip I think this was inspired by. Anybody remember the HD clip that panned from Heaven to Hell, with the same Sistine Chapel vibe? It had bodybuilders in it. :) -j
^the same director as civilization. civilization was genius and complex, this was simple, over hyped, over cooked pretension. i love the idea, but not the lack of payoff, statement or mystique.
but i was anticipating something great. a political, RELEVANT portrait of power as epic as his other work... a new picture and perspective on how society really works from the perspective of a 'star'... or somewhere in between at least
instead? a pretty picture that left me with blue balls. just as i thought 'this is going to be genius' and leaned forward, it ended. really disappointing. kind of like downloading porn in the dialup days and the picture only loading to the tits.
this technique will now likely be ripped off and done better, in a commercial perhaps.
also, the digital zooms and scan pans at the end reminded me of that 90's REM poolside video, in the worst way possible. all it did was reveal the sloppy footage re-timing and imperfect compositing.
would have been cooler had they said nothing and just released this. the hype killed it for me, which now seems a fair way to define kanye west's career...
loved that
This is a leaked WIP version. here's the final: www.vimeo.com
Cool. It's a new spin on the same material you see in every hip-hop video.
looks too cheap for the concept.
er dont tell me!.....'There Is No Plan B'
The version that Nice Shoes (the censored version on Vevo) created is hella better than the ArtJail version. Especially the color grade and comping. www.niceshoes.com
^^^ Terrible plant by the people at Niceshoes. Not only are you guys not great, but it's odd that you're trying to come across as a normal commentator on this site and frown upon another vfx house.
im noticing the video is becoming a catalyst for conspiracy 'theorists' in the comments on youtube... talking about the bloodlines of the illuminati (the worlds most powerful and allusive families) and the 'new world order' agenda. this is getting interesting...
i also have found new symbolism in the video, the owl on the necklace the egyptian pyramids on his fingers and when the two swords come together above the crown it looks like the all seeing eye on our dollar bill...
interesting.
the artist calls it a portrait of the end of a corrupt empire.
then there's the lyrics: I’m livin’ in the 21st century Doin’ something mean to it Do it better than anybody you ever seen do it Screams from the haters, got a nice ring to it I guess every superhero need his theme music
No one man should have all that power The clock’s tickin’, I just count the hours Stop trippin’, I’m trippin’ off the power (21st century schizoid man)
The system broken, the schools closed, the prisons open We ain’t got nothin’ to lose, ma’fucka, we rollin’ Huh? Ma’fucka, we rollin’ With some light-skinned girls and some Kelly Rowlands In this white man’s world, we the ones chosen So goodnight, cruel world, I see you in the mornin’ Huh? I see you in the mornin’ This is way too much, I need a moment ... colin powell’s austin powers–lost in translation with a whole fuckin’ nation.
either everyone is reading too deep or there actually might be more here than just a pretty picture.
