Cinematographer vs Producer
Gotta play devil's advocate here:
Tiny Furniture - SXSW '10
I saw it and it actually looked pretty decent.
Actually it doesn't matter what you shoot your feature on, what matters is script, story, acting. Everything else is distracting fluff.
i beg to differ although its true, the regular movie goers only care about what u said but filmmakers they should care; i wouldnt shoot a period piece on a cell phone (nor on digital, despite mann's take on public enemies or the other boleyn sister, which look good enough but i d rather they were shot on film), nor a skate movie on 3-perf 35 mil; the message should dictate the medium; i was watching the other day solondz's 'life during wartime' and couldnt help thinking it looked like a fucking tv movie, like a soap
ps: 'i cant believe im saying this, but cant we shoot on red?':D when u compare back to back footage from the red and the 7d, youll know why; but a good thing about these dslr cameras is that they finally had the kodak company here work out some very lucrative deals for filmmakers who still choose to shoot on film
Indeed the message should dictate the medium. But one can use the 7d and shoot a perfectly engaging and humorous French social drama, or a scary Mexican horror movie. I don't get the point of this video. As much as I liked the earlier one with the record label rep, this one just does not ring true. When you produce an indie feature, DP, director, and producer are usually all on the same page, and more than likely already friends/collaborators... if they're not, then the movie is probably a waste of everyone's time anyway.
Story always comes first, but a 7D will always wear out much faster than any RED camera cause it was built for stills first and foremost. H.264 was always made for internet streaming since it's inception . It can screened decently in digital projected theatres, but I know a lot of theatres that still want their film in Reels, and something shot on a 7D will look shit transferred to film.
Plus, if your were even seriously considering a feature on a DSLR, 5D all the way.
Tiny Furniture looks like a feminist Wes Anderson film.
H.264 was always made for internet
This is absolutely false. Cheap implementations of the codec (like Apple's) are.
